Quote... JDFU from "Last Words" thread: My dad (Campbell) was banned for a weak excuse... he wasn't a trouble maker... He spoke what he believed and never showed an ounce of uncertainty about it.....in fact most people on this forum would agree that he kept things alive. I'm with you 100% here...As spook13, I disagreed with Campbell on a lot of faith questions, but with a couple of minor exceptions, we were always at least cordial...he's a gentleman, albeit a strongly-opinionated one, and did keep the fires stoked here (bad metaphor ). Campbell should not have been banned!!! Darrell: I've been a member here for several years as spook13 and recently as sanatan , in case you want to hit the ban button again. Review my posts, here and on the Hinduism forum...the instances where I've taken less than the high road are very few and far between....I dare you to ban me. JDFU...note italicized statement: not 100% true, or even 50% true. Yes, there are the Fedups, Fuzzynutses, and the smalltime troublemakers...those who habitually step over the bounds of civility or topical appropriateness...but they are a minority. Most folks here are just looking for answers or conversation. Speaking personally, I've never been out to "deceive" anyone here or change their faith...that's not where I'm at. What I have done is ask a lot of pointed questions and make pointed statements about faith or belief issues that I either strongly doubt or disagree with....in other words, I've initiated discussion or continued it. "Take one step toward God, and he will take ten toward you." (Hindu saying, BTW)
Sanatan, I know you have been here for awhile and so does my dad... You guys were elders on this forum. I know he appreciates your support as he looks down from cyber heaven... haha In regards to decieving... most people on here I do not think want to persuade on purpose, but they raise some very tough questions that definately questions a Christians belief. This forum is not for a Christian who is unsure what they believe, because chances are they will be persuaded into a worldly view. That was my point.
Excuse me, but I haven't banned anyone in two years on this forum. You need to be sure that it was me before you go about slinging accusations. If some other moderator didn't like something you said and banned you for that reason alone, then that was their prerogative and something I have no control over. I'm pretty sure that if you do get banned in the next few days, perhaps few hours, it still won't be me, rather another mod who, like me should, sticks to the "letter of the law" and will ban you for persistent complaining about someone else being banned. Keep it up, and Ill tell you like I tell JD4U, you'll get exactly what you want out of this. You may not like it, but you'll get it none-the-less. HTML: HTML: HTML:
In regards to moot points, how does one achieve the high status of a moderator. I see that one does not have to know anything about the religion that they are moderators of... Can I be a moderator of Buddism?
A person doesn't have to have knowledge of the forum they are moderating. It doen't hurt to know something about it, but not a requirement. One does not need to know what the forum subject matter is about in order to spot a trouble-maker. However, a moderator should have read and re-read the Forum Posting Guidelines and be very familiar with it. Care to test that knowledge? HTML: HTML: HTML: HTML:
Darrell...I automatically assumed you had banning powers since you are what appears to be a temporary mod here. You made a good case for an impartial Buddhist moderating a Christian forum; by the same reasoning, JDFU, if he can maintain an impartial attitude and demeanor, should be able to moderate on the Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, or Scientology forums. I'm about as far from being a born-again evangelical as you can get, and take extreme exception to much of their doctrine, but still consider myself a Christian of sorts. I do perceive an anti-Christian bias on the part of the management here, especially Skip, and it showed right through when he banned Campbell. If that gets me banned, so be it.
Much appreciated! I understand...there are those here, like myself, who don't desire to change someone's viewpoint to a worldly one or "de-Christianize" them...we just have differences of opinion with you and Campbell and those of similar faith convictions and like to discuss and debate these...if I say that I don't believe in original sin, I'm only fishing for a rational response. God bless...sanatan/spook13
