An idea who's time has come! Well a bro we know called the Hippiestead the other day & with him knowing that we were an extension of Popcorn Palace , he asked if JuJu & I were going to set up the Palace at Rainbow 2007. "I don't know," I told him, "All the equipment is gone; we don't have any pots or pans, much less the 3 ft wok that the popcorn gets made in." "Wow, that's too bad because I had this cool idea. I think we should get all the old Rainbow Video that we can; stuff from Digital cams, tapes + players from VHS + Beta cams, 8mm + Super8 cams; and we should find a way to show them at night; and if you're going to show movies, you have to have popcorn, right? I'd like to even have it set up to where we can copy all the video and get it set up to share," the bro told me. "That does sound like a cool idea, Bro." "Of course we'll need folks to dig up any video equipment that they can; and we'll need use of a laptop, and a solar powered batteries to run the whole thing. I have an 8mm projector that can be used," he offered. "Well, let's put the word out and see who all is interested. Maybe we can find a way to do this in conjunction with Spundance's site if someone still has that going." Granola Funk might think this could be an auxiliary, theatrically anyway, to their show! ..... who knows, they might want to 'jump right on board' (to steal a metaphor from last year!) So that's what I'm doing, I'm putting the word out. If enough people are interested in helping focalize this effort, we'll start a message board somewhere. Here's the wish list 8mm. RAINBOW Movies + Projectors, Super8 RAINBOW Movies + projectors, Beta + VHS RAINBOW tapes + players, Rainbow DVDs + players / recorders, Projection screens, > LG., White, tarps/sheets, etc., Movie projector into Camcorder, Mirror Boxes,(to convert earlier formats to DVD), Video projectors + laptops w/ DVD Burners, UPSs + batteries (if they can last long enough, we wouldn't even need to have generators in the woods!), extension cords, surge protectors, A/C -D/C converters also ....................................... liquid light show stuff, .......... Tarpage (of course!), Battery powered stage lighting, spots, cans, etc. Computer lightshow/software, (to make 'going to the RAINBOW movies', Really BE Rainbow movies!) All these items could/would be returned to the donating individuals at the end of the Gathering or if someone wanted to only donate their equipment while they were available to help run it, that would be cool too. The idea here is to save as much Rainbow Archival video as possible; the bro who called us noticed that some of his old 8mm films were deteriorating and that was the inspiration for this project. So what do you folks think? Thoughts, Ideas, Suggestions? Are there any folks out there who would like to help make this happen?
i absolutely love the idea of sarchiving & sharing as much as we can get ahold of but im tempted to block on the lightshow since that can be intrusive & annoying as much as electronic music but the movies i'm all for that there should be a website for it for people worldwide to submit theyre footage as well, & a for ppl to accvess the full archive of rainbow movies it would probly be 1 of my favorite sites
Hi Ya Fellas! This is a fantastic idea! Hippiestead, I am in San Antonio takeing care of some family for a couple wks, but I'd love to get up w/ ya'll when I'm back up that away. I havent been on here much cuz it's so beautiful out! I am going to try my hand at sendin a private note to ya! As always Soaringeagle,,,nice to see ya, even if it is cyberspace! can't take credit for it, it was our brother's idea. Soaring eagle, doesn't the disco ball create a light show of sorts? we have a bunch of CDs handing outside that shoot reflective light too...may we could go more toward that type of light show. A liquid light show is usually just an overhead projector with glass dishes with colored liquids oil...stuff like that we did a really cool bubble show in PA the night of our 10th anniversary; me'n'JuJu & another couple. 2 people used bubble wands to blow 2 1/2 ft bubbles and the other 2 people lit the bubbles with flashlights. I would consider that to be a Rainbow lightshow. Is any of this sounding less intrusive?
I have a background in soundtracking and audio/video editing. I would be happy to spend the time molding whatever pieces you could come up with. Always a good plan B?
