Hi everyone Just a quick note about www.sessionsound.com Before you say "another indie music site", here's a few things you should now: * you set your own retail prices * commission free mp3 sales * cd on demand (for USD5.00) - we don't make it 'til you sell it * 100% non-exclusive * streaming audio * band profiles, gig guide, photo albums, & blog Cheers Fadi Some background, in case you have the time... Sessionsound was formed for a lot of reasons, and one of them was a sincere belief that we've got a small window of opportunity to make a difference to the music industry, before iTunes and the Big Four close it again. Basically, file sharing and mp3 downloads aren't the only story when it comes to digital music - it's the change to music promotion and distribution that is really underlying the threat to "the music business". Where once we had only a few choices about where we found out about and bought music, there is now an infinite opportunity for bands and fans to discover each other. While there are some great new indie music sites out there, what they have mostly done is transpose what happens offline into an online format. So, it's no surprise that the end result for indie musicians has been the same - there has been no change in the percentage of profits that filter through to the artist as a result of the much hyped 'digital revolution'. ;-) So as much as a business model as a philosophy, sessionsound.com assures artists that it won't make money until they do. Basic membership is free. Artists can set their own retail price, and sales of mp3's and CD's are commission free. We have CD on demand, which means we only make the CD once it's sold, so the artist has no upfront outlay. And importantly, it's non-exclusive, so artists retain ownership of their stuff.
