There was a thread on him in here but it died and is buried so i'm gonna start a new one. He has to be one of the best writers of today. i've read all of his books and they all are superb, not a bad one in the lot. his new one is coming out in May and i can't wait! I first got turned on to him because of the Pixies song "Where Is My Mind?" I heard the song was in the Fight Club movie so i checked out the movie. Movie was good so i checked out the book and the book was even better which started me down the slippery slope of Chuck addiction. Invisible Monsters and Choke are my favorites followed by Survior, Diary, and Fight Club. now for my opinions about each book in the order i read them... Fight Club so like i said i read this because of the movie and i'm glad i did. the book ending is so much better than the movie too Choke i grabbed this one next because of the cool cover and it was a fantastic read. Great plot, great characters. Haunted I actually picked this up at a flea market for a couple bucks. I have to say this is one of the GROSSEST books i have ever read. but the premise is superb. Survivor Great idea. they need to make this into a movie. one more word: AWESOME!!! Lullaby now this is a good story too. not as strong as his others but definitely not weak. Invisible Monsters If this wasn't a Chuck book i probably wouldn't have picked it out but i'm glad i read it because it was GRRRREEEAAAATT!!! Diary I just finished this today and it was awesome. great story, great read. so if you haven't read Chuck check him out NOW!!!! JOn
i've only read choke but i really liked it! good book, definetly check out more of his writing soooon.
He's alright. I can go through his books in hours because they are indeed entertaining, but they do not truly touch me in the same ways other books do. I've read Choke, Survivor, and Fight Club... and I'm sure that I will read the rest of his books, but he isn't up there with the rest of them, ya know?
well i don't know about that... but to each his own i guess. I'm currently reading Stranger than Fiction, his non fiction stories and its not bad. its not the same as the fiction stuff but its still good. There are some good stories like the castle builders and the one on the submarine.
He's not too bad. I wouldn't say that he is "freakin' awesome". All his novels seem to be the same thing to me. It's alright though, just his style. I haven't had the chance to read "Stranger Than Fiction" yet.
I enjoy the way he writes, his flow, his word choice, and even the way the story lines are composed. He is not my favorite author but I always keep an ear out for finding out when his new book is coming out.
well his new book is coming out in May i do believe, can't wait!!! I've always enjoyed reading but he is the first author that has really grabbed me. like the previous comment said, the way he writes works for me. JOn
I have no idea why everyone thinks he's a great writer. I haven't read many of his books and I do believe Fight Club was a good book but not his other ones. I really think there are way better writers out there, he's just trendy for some reason. His writing seems forced and the book I read (I can't remember.. lullaby or something?) had a really confusing plot, it made no sense really. I'm not trying to diss him but believe me there are WAY more amazing writers out there!
lullaby is one of his newer books and it isn't as great as his earlier books. maybe check out survivor or choke or invisible monsters. these are better than the later books. JOn
Invisible Monsters is my favorite. It has everything a good book should have, transexuals, models, gay sex, and gunshot wounds! Hooray! As for his others, i've read Lullaby which is ok, Survivor which i liked better and Diary, but Monsters remains my favorite.
Its probably closer to pulp than literature. I think he's more notable for his style than his substance.
Fight Club. I'm one of the rare lucky ones who read the book before the movie. I read it 3 times back to back once. As a guy I feel it just does something to you when your down like a soothing balm on a rash. The contrast between Jacks isolation and Tylers complete freedom is incredable. Pluss it's social few is truly unique
bollocks. style is always more important than substance. shakespere could take toilet humor and turn it into poetry. we don't read him because of his interesting facts. i've read most of chuck's work, and some are incredibly interesting. Diary, in my opinion, was a pile of shit (very few men can write a convincing female lead). his sporadic, dark satirical wit and nontradional narrative are notable. Fight club was a decent movie, A+ for effort (it's one of those 'unfilmable' books).
