i use knotty boy shampoo bar and NOTHING ELSE in my hair....i wash about every 4-7 days and i rinse very thoroughly. I've used no wax, nothing......dreads are one month 15 days old.........

i find that whenever i'm rolling my hair....my hands end up being really sticky and almost goopy feeling....like there's some kind of residue rubbing off onto my hands? I used to get this say, before i had dreads, when i would play with my hair when i had gel in it or something.....do you think it could be the knotty boy??

Also...i've found now that the itching has become unbareable after only 4 days....i wonder if this has anything to do with whatever residue is being left on my head? I mean it itches to the point where it burns......i'm sure you all can imagine how fucking AGGRAVATING this is? help meee before i lose my mind!

It could be the shampoo you are using...I don't know what's in the knotty boy shampoo exactly, but if you can't read the ingrediants or you don't know what it is, don't use it.

It could also be natural oils, though...

I would switch shampoos because it doesn't sound as if the knotty boy shampoo is doing you much good. Your scalp should not burn or itch so bad, it burns. Invest in some tea tree oil and switch to a different kind of shampoo.

    Good luck! Don't give up!

It's soap scum, which is really common from shampoo bars as well as liquid castile soaps. Whether your soap "scums" or not depends on how hard your water is...which is why shampoo bars work great for some people and awful for others. I'd recommend a regular, liquid, detergent-based shampoo with tea tree oil. Nature's Gate and J/A/S/O/N both make excellent ones.

I use the liquid Bronners with Tea Tree oil. Tea Tree oil is great for the itchies!

I use J/A/S/O/N lotions...they are pretty great...and all natural! I haven't ever used any of their shampoos before, though.

They are wonderful, too! I'm a huge fan of all of their cleansers for hair, face, and body.

use the bronners liquid tea tree
it certainle can be water relasted
soft (or is it hard) water never seems to rince anything right
use the soap mainly un the skalp & just rince thru
if your waters the prob maybe bucket rincing is best?
a weak shower spray may not do it but 3 or so gallons dumped over your head repeatedly will get alot more residue out hard or soft water
    try a freinds shower?

The DH stuff is disgusting. It killed my scalp, made it hurt so badly I gave up on it and turned to Dr Bronner's. Knotty Boy isn't bad either, it feels nice :)

i use knotty boy bar soap, but it can be pretty expensive. last time i bought a bar of soap i cut it up into 6 small peices so that i get more use out of it. This bar has almost lastest me an entire year. some lady told me the liquid is the same once at a head shop in toronto, but the ingredients are very different. I would use anything with natural ingredients. also soaps are made with water... maybe try some local natural soap. by the way, your locks looked freakin' awsome in the last pictures, so dont give up, it will be totally worth it :D
