I bought a new pair of jeans and I really want to rip them at the knees and wherever. I am unsure of how to go about it, I'm afraid I'll completely destroy them. The jeans have a slight stretchyness to them, if that makes a difference...any tips?

If you rip new jeans, they're going to look like you ripped them on purpose yourself. ;)

    My advice....

put them on and sit with your knees bent up in front of you, them take a razor blade and gently make a few slits horozontally at the knees. (don't cut yourself!) Don't go all the way to the side seams, they will do that soon enough on their own. Then throw 'em in the washer and dryer.

Horizontal is the key! I can't begin to tell you how badly I killed my jeans by accidentally pulling the holes open vertical.

if you are going to rip em yourself wait till they fade a bit, or wear them a lot (outside) where they fade normally is a good place to rip em... my jeans that have ripped usually give in the knees first, followed by the thighs near the seam or on the seam then the butt. and fray the bottom so that it looks natural.

if theyre really stretchy it might not work, it'll look weird.

    GOOD LUCK

IMO, there is a definite art to ripping jeans. My personal opinion on the matter is that you must have some reason other than "I want to rip my jeans". Say...at a party, and you say to a bunch of friends "I need air holes...you know, for speed" or something. It's something that a worn out pair of jeans needs to go through after atleast 2 years though. If it happens before then, then that's awesome, but don't just start ripping them for the hell of it. you need something to talk about later on, like "Remember that time we all ripped my jeans?", and then everyone can have a gooooood laugh.

Wow, I didn't really say anything helpful in that post, hahaha.

cheese grater is the way to go!! rub it where you want the hole to go... and keep brushing the fabric till it starts to peel away... that way you get those little pieces that stay together and when you bend your knee it'll rip more. it's like 10 years worth of wear and tear and waitin in 5 minutes time! :p
