No I wasn't suggesting you did and yes we should be mindfull of others. You're right I did say I was a liitle disingenuous in that I was trying to prove a point, although I thought the first post wasn't offensive, maybe not as balanced as it should have been but I did lose my cool later on.[IMG]

I think it was the way the post was interpreted, rather than what you intended. If, like Sam, you've probably been exposed to much more extreme forms of homophobia, missing out the necessary caveats, without knowing you, might seem like a dig at homosexuals rather than, as I'm sure you intended, a dig at lewd behaviour in general....

Yeah it wasn't as balanced as it should have been but it wasn't a gay hating thing. Then here we are being light and finding the humour is some of what we find mad in the political correctness issue; kept in perspective.

I can see where you're coming from, and I think the underlying principles are context and knowledge. The odd controversial joke is fine in the right context and where people know each other and know that no offense is intended. I think you suffered, perhaps unfairly, because no one knew you or what your intentions were. Now that we've got to know you better, I doubt we'd make the same assumptions. I don't think most people here would assume you're homophobic, and I'm willing to take your word on that....

I think PC has its place there’s still plenty of homophobia, racism, sexism etc that needs to be addressed and there is evidence to suggest that what you call things effects how you see them etc.
However I do sometimes think that when ridiculously over the top PC things like not being allowed to sing ba ba black sheep come out some people’s reaction is going to be that there is a minority that are actually offended by this and resent them for it actually creating the racism its meant to stamp out.

Isn't over the top PC just people not wanting to offend others. To strong sometimes but at least honourable.

These issues have already been addressed by Laws from Parliament. PC is really taking things to the extreme. It makes living even harder and doesn't allow people to take responsibility.

For example, a kid walks up to teacher with a pair of scissors. It carrys the scissors in the correct manner. The kid feels good because it is being responsible. If PC brigade comes in, sharp scissors would be out and there would be no scissors or the adult would have to carry them. They basically turn innocent things like nursery rythmes or skipping with a skipping rope into a devious, macabre threat to life. In other words they make innocent into evil. That is my opinion.

Apart of growing up, is learning how to be responsible. The Pc Brigade threaten this very important aspect of life-responsibility. It basically puts stabilisers on pedestrians, cushions on kitchen knives and total ban of all things that "could" be construde as racist, abusive or anti semetic.

Whilst I appreciate your point John, I'll reiterate. You're conflating two seperate issues. Kids and scissors have nothing to do with political correctness....

    John,
Evidently addressed was the wrong choice of words, I meant that those things (racism etc) need to be eradicated which is not going to happen by addressing things in parliament and creating laws as if this was the case they would have already been eradicated.
I do think that over the top PC will lead to more people having the kind of all-or-nothing thinking you are displaying as people will just think 'oh that’s so stupid everything else PC must be stupid as well.' I'm in no way implying that your argument is that simplistic as I do agree with some of your points I'm just illustrating the fact that in many people it will be that black and white.
I do agree with your scissors analogy – children need to learn responsibility and over the top protection will not help them however it’s nothing to do with being politically correct.
