Well that depends which newspapers you read or which media you listen to. You do hear that kind of attitude from certain sources, but the facts don't back up the idea that we're lusting after a more barbarous era in general. I think it's probably the voice of reactionary conservatism getting louder as it's being gradually sidelined in an increasingly progressive society. As mellowthyme points out in the post above this one, if you have a barbaric justice system, that system tends to encroach on society's values and make society generally more barbarous, but where you have a fairer and more tolerant one, that too will be reflected in society. I think that's what's happened in the case of the abolotion of the death penalty leading to even greater awareness and condemnation of execution. On this issue we need to let the research lead policy rather than the reactionary ideas of the majority...
I don’t think our justice system is ideal but I still cannot ignore the obvious points that have been reiterated over and over in this thread – The death penalty would lead to killing innocent people and it is not an effective deterrent. There is always the possibility of someone being wrongly convicted I know this is rare but how could you live with having murdered that person? As someone already pointed out there are plenty of people in prison who should NOT be there, I personally know someone whose life was ruined because some girl lied and said he raped her thankfully she confessed during the trial otherwise there’s a big chance he’d be in prison and if some people has their way awaiting death. I don’t believe that the death penalty is the answer to overcrowded prisons either; people get locked up for things far smaller than rape or murder when they could be dealt with outside of prisons having the death penalty would not solve this.
so what happen if the murderer escapes and murders some one close to you. do you just put him back in jail. and hopes he never escapes again. or do you terminate his life. in the comforting knowledge. that one thing for dam sure he will murder no more.
That's the only recourse of death penalty proponents really isn't it? Play the family card. Well, as important as family are, a rational-legal justice system based on universal human rights is more important....
Our barbarism attitude approach has become a part of our culture. It is hereditary. Executing someone is basically legalised murder. So if the law says that no citizen should kill someone, why do the American laws become hypocritical? In this country, we face over crowded prisons. Most prisoners are only in for stealing a loaf of bread or a road violation. Instead of issuing prison sentences to trivial crimes, where the full armourment of the law is not appropriate, hand down community services. Let them moe a few lawns or get rid of garbage.
if we can't execute them for murdering members of our family. then our only recourse is to dispense our own justice. and to hell with the so called justice system in this country which is pathetic. we now have more violent criminals on the loose now thanks to our beloved justice system and our lame govement.
Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill, Come on join in, Kill, Kill, Kill, let's get those dirty, evil paediatricians. Where's the flippin Paedogeneral when you want him. Bloody car thieves, string 'em up!
And that Peter File guy? Burn his car I say. Did you know a crab shares 95% of its DNA with a pedophile. Die pedophile crab!
uk justice favours the criminal. the victim has to rely on senile old judges. who have lost touch with reality. in the hope they might actually know who are the criminals who are the poor innocent victims they have attacked or killed. justice in this country is one big lottery.
Whilst in some cases, rape for example, there might be cause to agree with you, that take is a little cynical. Surely you can see some positives in British justice?
those fuckers who consider themselves to be a west ham team should be fuckin hung drawn and quarted if you ask me .
after watching enough documentaries and reading enough articles about how well the death penalty works in American and how many innocent people are killed only to find out later (oops) that they weren't the right people; I am proud to say no matter what the circumstance I am 100% against the death penalty. Let the people rot, and well if they are innocent there will be plenty of time for someone to make repercussions. If someone was thought to have killed my loved ones I'd much rather know that they are locked up and miserable in prison without many creature comforts for all the rest of their days rather than them getting the easy way out and just having their life be cut short.
