From E! online: The man who helped put Boston on the map has journeyed on. Singer Brad Delp was found dead Friday in his New Hampshire home by police who were responding to a 911 call for help, made around 1:20 p.m. ET. Delp was 55. While the cause of Delp's death is still under investigation, according to a statement from the Atkinson Police Department, the state medical examiner's office doesn't suspect foul play and the musician looked to have been alone in his house when he died. Boston, which at the time included Delp, producer-songwriter-guitarist Tom Scholz, drummer Sib Hashian, guitarist Barry Goudreau and bassist Fran Sheehan, hit it big in 1976 with their multiplatinum self-titled debut, which featured the signature tunes "MoreThan a Feeling" and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight." Boston, which sold more than 17 million copies, remains the number-one-selling debut album in U.S. history. A statement on the band's Website read, "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll." Delp had popped the question to longtime girlfriend Pamela Sullivan over the Christmas holidays and the couple were planning to tie the knot this summer.
Isn't it strange how when sid barrett of floyd died there was like 15 threads and when the lead singer to boston dies theres only one maybe two? Whats up with that?
Boston was a huge band of there day. They only made a couple real good albums but back in there hayday, you would rather see boston, in my opinion.
Boston had the first compact disc to go gold, Third Stage. While I liked Boston and Don't Look Back, Third Stage was by far my favorite because it was a concept album and I dig those. I saw them several times live. Boston, Kansas, BOC, Heart, Skynyrd and Journey were the big touring bands of the late 70s and early 80s. They were on the road 40+ weeks a year even if they weren't promoting a release. You don't see that with current bands. They do 15 cities to promote a new release, and fade away for a year until they can dump something else in the WalMart bin and then they do it again. Older bands worked ALL the time. They didn't charge $500 for a floor seat either, ad when they reunite they still don't. I've seen all of those bands reunite in the last 5 years or so and never spent more than $50 for floor seats. Dammit I'm geezing again...
Their first album was a junior high favorite of mine and I've kept it in the rotation. Really, Boston was about two things: Scholz's guitar tone and Brad's incredible voice. Brad was one of the all time great rock singers, no matter how you feel about Boston's artistic value. He will be missed.
