Ok, so im an 18 year old male. Im pretty thin so I want to bulk up a bit, nothing too fancy, just want to put on a bit of meat. I want to keep it simple, so are pressups good enough? Are situps reccomended aswell? If so how much of it should I do daily? Thanks.
do you have access to a gym? or do you just want to use bodyweight? you can form a workout around your bodyweight exercises you want to focus around big, compound movements...so pushups are great, you want to include squats, and pullups. there are many variations to pushups, can go all the way to a 1-arm pushup. same with pull-ups, many variations, including towel and rope pull-ups. squats, you want to build up to a 1 leg squat (pistol). i woiuld get an ab-wheel and do planks (front and side at first) then move onto levers (l-sits, dragon flags, and such). would make your own sandbag to be able to add more overload. dips, full body weight or use a bench with feet on ground or elevated and progress to a full body dip. those are just a few exercises you can do with just your bodyweight. to get bigger, you're going to have to eat bigger. plain and simple...eat, and then eat some more. make sure its healthy foods.
To be honest, I just want to keep it simple, I reckon I can get a reasonable build by just doing pressups and situps daily. Its just i wondered how much of each is reccomended to do?
About a year ago, I started doing pushups in my living room. At first, I struggled to do 20. I've slowly moved up to where I'm doing about 50 on the ground and 50 with my feet elevated in the morning and the same at night. Sometimes I'll add some pyramid pushups (1 narrow, 2 medium, 3 wide, 4 narrow, etc. up to about 50). I also started to curl a bar too. Starting slow with only 20 a day, like I did with the pushups. When you're doing pushups, just do however many you feel comfortable doing and add about 10-15 to that. If you're really hurting near the end, then keep doing it. Eventually you can challenge yourself by adding more pushups or elevating your feet or trying a new kind of pushup. Though I wouldn't recommend pushups if you're going for a lot of bulk, it's done more to tone my body than actually add bulk.
Well I'd just like reasonable sized looking arms, because at the moment there quite thin, will it at least get them big to a certain point?
what i wrote was very simple to do...and it will aid in preventing muscle imbalances you will get if you just stick to do pushups and situps. and you still need to eat more to get a bit bigger if you just stick to pushups...you need to have progressive overload once you get comfortable with pushups.... and situps aren't even the best exercise
yea my arms have grown, but moreso my chest and shoulders. It will make your arms bigger, but it will probably take longer than other exercises.
