i've said it befor and i'll say it again, eric clapton is a god! I really like Jack Bruces vocals too and Ginger baker is hardcore! Sunshine of your love is one of my favorite songs of all time, just fucking amazing. jack bruce said it was a song waiting to be written, and it's so true. It is just a tune that everything goes so well together that you wonder how you ever went without it. Tales of brave ulysses is reallyawsome too.
yeah, "tales" is an excellent tune - so is "we're going wrong".......i guess i just dig Israeli Gears!
A tad? CLAPTON IS FUCKING SHITE!!! Hendrix, SRV etc are all from a different multiverse to this guy. And yes, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck own him.
Okay, Bruce doesn't suck, but he certainly isn't what he is cracked up to be. And I swear that Baker keeps lagging behind. But perhaps I am wrong. You are obviously a big Clapton fan, but I on't like him at all. I've heard 'Bluesbreakers', 'Best Of Cream', 'August', 'Slowhand' and 'Unplugged', but he just doesn't impress me. And to say that he is as good than Stevie Ray Vaughan is just bizarre. If you prefer his style, fair enough, but for actual ability, SRV could arguably outplay anyone ever - possibly even Hendrix (although i doubt that.) Cream were a landmark band, and I'm not putting them down. but there is (in my opinion) tonnes of way better stuff out there.
WTF?! You are indeed one of a kind. I have never heard anyone say that. I could outplay Eric Clapton. Listen to 'Say What!' and compare it to some shite that Clapton did like 'Strange Brew'. Clapton wears a fucking suit live. He has all the charisma of a watermelon. BBC voted him the most overrated guitarist ever. Gallup voted SRV at #1, ahead of Hendrix. Clapton even said that SRV was a far better player - they were best mates. To reiterate my point, CLAPTON CANNOT PLAY THE GUITAR PROPELY.

Ooh! I LOVE Cream! I think Jack Bruce, Ginger baker and -of coarse- Eric Clapton are awesome! My faves are 'white room', 'sunshine of your love' and 'I feel free'. I just can't get enough of that driving 'wha-wha' guitar sound!!
Yeah, because Clapton is an invention of the media. The Gallup polls in America (the biggest in the world) put SRV ahead of Hendrix, Clapton, Page etc at #1. Look it up if you don't believe me. Also, Clapton was a mate os Stevie's, and he said that he was intimidated by his playing. he called him a 'genius'. I repeat, CLAPTON IS SHITE!!!
We all respect each others opinions here, mate, but to say something like Clapton can't play the guitar properly is plain ridiculous. If you do really think that though, then good luck to you...
Good luck to me? What do you mean. I have heard loads of Clapton's stuff (and I mean loads) and if you think he's a great guitarist for his style then that's fair enough, but to say he's techically good is beyond ridiculous. I don't only like stuff if it's difficult to play (I like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc, but don't like Malmsteen, Petrucci etc.) Clapton just doesn't do anything for me.
Eric would be the first to say he's not a techically proficient guitarist. That's not what he's about. He's a feel player... A blues purist. That's what I like about him. Just like Buddy Guy... He's sloppy as hell a lot of the time, but boy, do you feel every note. Sure, Eric strayed a lot after Derek & the Dominos, partly due to a combination or drugs, low self-esteem and record company pressure... but listen to an album like From the Cradle. He can still deliver when he's playing what he was born to play. The blues. I have no problem with people not liking Eric. That's their prerogative. If you don't feel it, that's fine. To say he can't play worth a shit though is just unfounded in my opinion...
That's fair enough. It just annoys me when people say that he's really quick, or technically amazing. If you like his style then that is that.
I love the blues. People are always quick to bash Eric. I've encountered it on numerous occasions of posting in forums over the years... I'll continue to stand up for him. Eric understands the blues... When you hear him play, he's got that perfect combination of feel, pauses, speed when needed, note choice etc... He gets it. Not many do IMO (I'm talking white boys here)... SRV, Peter Green, Bloomfield, Winter etc. being a few exceptions. Blues isn't about technical ability or originality to me, it's about pure expression and feel. This clip is a perfect example of Eric for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp0-STZvbD8
I love the blues, too. It's my favourite music. I play guitar, and all I ever play is the blues. Stevie Ray Vaughan is my idol. Gary Moore, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Robert Cray etc are all great. But I can't stand Eric Clapton. To me, it sounds like someone practising the blues, rather than really feeling it. I've heard his stuff with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, one Derek and the Dominoes song ('Layla', of course) plus a load of his solo stuff and the album he played guitar on for Roger Waters. In my (humble) opinion, he is very boring. And anyone who supports Enoch Powell has something wrong with them.
That's fair do's... We all have our own particular favourites. I love SRV too. He managed to tread the fine line of being super technically proficient and fast with having feel too. He was a one off. All of the SRV clones that came after him are just all about speed and precision. All wrong in my book. I went to see Gary Moore a couple of years ago when he was supporting BB King... He's great when he's controlling himself playing an old Fleetwood Mac blues or something, but then he looses it and goes into an almost shred-type blues which just doesn't sit well with me... It's a pity as I can tell he does posess feel...
