For every one here that eats at Subway I just learned something today that you may want to know.

I went there after school to have a sub with a couple of classmates and got a Veggie sub like I always to. I still eat dairy and eggs but meat is a big no no. Well, when the girl asked me what kind of cheese that I want on my sub I told her to put on whatever they usually do. That is when she told me that their "regular cheese" has pork in it.

It took me off guard, so if you eat at Subway and have cheese on your sub make sure you get swiss or chedder. They do not have pork in them.

Well, I hope this was useful.

Umm, there's rennet in cheese - from beef, but no pork.

There's a possibility of this anytime you eat cheese without checking specifically with that company... while it's becoming less frequent, some companies still use animal rennet. Wish I could remember what the alternative is called, but most cheeses are now made with a vegetable-based "rennet."

until they change the bread recipie.

I think the cross contamination on such a small assembly line is high.
While my local shop has no prob changing gloves for me, they won't reach under the top layer for anything.

I still eat there occasionally since it's so hard to find vegan (or as close to it as possible) food while out of the house. I choose all vegan options (except for the bread... but I guess there's some milk in the wheat bread...).

The answer to the cheese/rennet dillema: don't eat the cheese.

I'm impressed that Subway is so thorough on their web site about the ingredients in their sandwiches. I'm not particularly impressed that the employees of Subway are so ignorant about the food they serve, but I guess that's what a company that pays its workers minimum wage should expect.

Guess that means the only safe thing there is the salad sandwich... unless of course the bread is tainted !

I couldn't eat at subway. This girl in my history class has a sandwhich from there and I always look at the sauce on it and feel grossed out just looking at it. Plus white bread is so bad for you, not to mention the trans fats. I have a hard time eating food that is not organic.

I saw a video on myspace recently where someone poured coke on pork and worms came to the surface of the pork.
