    Is it Really Love?

Love, in its many classifications and stages, is the most powerful force known, not just in human society, but in all of nature. Throughout all of time, there have been images of "love" portrayed to society from the time a person enters the world. Babies receive caring and sentimental love from their parents, children experience the love they have for their first friends, and eventually one will learn what it is like to be loved by someone more than family, someone more than a friend, and, even if they are young, even if everyone says it is "puppy love", they know it is true love. They finally experience for their selves what they have always read about, dreamed about, or saw on TV. Minnie and Mickey Mouse from our childhood Disney shows, Jack and Rose from Titanic, Eric and Donna on That '70s Show; some examples of what we think "love" is. Still, the classic image of love instilled in society's mind is that of Romeo and Juliet.

When Suzie giggles at every little thing Bobby says or when Tommy teases little Angela out at recess, everyone assumes it is puppy love. Children are just starting to have new feelings for the opposite sex, but they do not know what to do about them. Maybe young love is true love. Maybe puppy love is more than just a crush. Maybe Romeo and Juliet were really in love, but even Romeo said "from love's weak childish bow." He said he was in love and the next moment he says love is childish. Maybe a child's first reaction to love is its purest. When a person gets older, they get tired of love. They have been with so many people that love means nothing to them anymore. As a child, love is new and innocent. Would that make it more pure, therein, more realistic and believable?

Friends are the greatest gifts to humans. They last forever if you treat them right, as with most other things. Sometimes people have friends because they share common interests. Sometimes friends come together unexpectedly. Someone could end up being buddy-buddy with someone else that they never saw themselves hanging out with. Sometimes people have friends that are completely opposite of their selves. Benvolio in the play is peaceful. He even says, "I do but keep the peace", while later on; Romeo is out killing Tybalt and eventually Paris. No matter the way friends come together; true friends share a strong bond and a friendly love for one another.

Love shown to a person by a family member is sometimes seen as obligation. Sometimes it is born of true trust and caring. Sometimes families don't show the love they feel for one another. Sometimes they don't even feel love for one another. Siblings love each other even if they seem to fight like wild animals. Siblings can go through thick and thin together and still end up happily. One moment two sisters are tearing each other's hair out and the next, the two are playing old school Nintendo and having a great time. It might sound psycho, but all it is is family love. Parental love is also a huge part of life as humans. Some parents feel that their job is to love, care for, and to protect their children, but others do not care and do not bother. Some parents are great and others are not so much. In the play, Juliet's mother hardly ever spoke to her daughter, and when Juliet confronted her with something, she stated "Here comes your father, tell him so yourself." She just pushed Juliet's problems onto her father. In the end, Romeo's mother killed herself because of the sorrow she experienced when she learned her son was banished. They were two completely different
families with two completely different parental figures. Their family's love was expressed differently in both situations, or even not at all.

Love is love. That is about all there is to say about it. It is confusing to some, or most, really. It is hard to explain, but when it is felt, it is known for a fact. Love is essential to the human way of life. It might seem like it has so many different categories, so many different ways to express it, but in the end it is still nature's most powerful force.

*just thought i'd let everyone read it. i really love the way it came out. it's definitely the best paper i've written for an assignment* :)

I disagree - I believe that accolade goes to the Atomic Bomb, and in particular to the Nutron Bomb
Actually thats not true - until the invention of the printing press there were very few images that were about love and the idea of "love" is not much found written or portrayed before about the 16th century

Youve obviously never read "A Lovers Discourse" By Roland Barthes - the French Literary critic and Linguist or a poem based on that book which is called "An Amorous Discourse In The Suburbs Of Hell", By Deborah Levy

I wholly recommend these -as you will find there is in fact a very great deal to say about love
