Now the About My Dreads part:
It took a span of about a week and a half to put them in due to time constraints so I'm glad they are finally done. However as you can see there are a LOT of lose 'wispies' that don't seem to go anywhere.
Also many elastics are coming out! They are those plastic 'ouchless' ones and they seem brittle because they just snap and fall off.

    And the Questions:
What can I do about the wispies? Palm rolling didn't calm the ones sticking out of my dreads. I also rolled the really loose groups down into dreadballs but now I have little dreadballs not part of any dread all over my head.

Also, how do they look? do you think will they hold out and turn into dreads?

    Many thanks!

wait for the wispies. You can sew them in once you start locking. Or sew them into the middle of each dread and they will form with it. Have someone help you with this.
It takes a while! Your hair looks very straight like mine. I have had mine about 1.5 years and my ends are still not dreaded. Just go with it. Be sure to rub the roots clockwise. I didn't do enough of that.

Is that wax I see, or is the picture just grainy? If it's wax, NO! BAD BOY!

And get rid of those silly rubber bands.

Your hair'll dread, don't worry about it...and the wispies will die down a little after a few months. but you'll always have little wispies. That's just the way things go. Maybe wait a month or so for them to get stronger and get some aloe vera, use sparingly like hair gel, to keep the wispies down.

Till then, a wool beanie is your best friend. They're really hard to find...so unless you live near a sports shop (where ski hats can be found) it's always good to be able to crochet..or to have a friend who can.

Its not wax, tho I have it, I haven't used it. Whats in my hair now is the DeadheadHG Locking Accelerator that I got when I bought there dreadlocking kit. I forgot to mention that. I also own This Hat.

No wax for me. Seen too many pictures of dreads with disgusting cores.

Also, how long untill they drop and I stop looking like that guy from hellrazor? :)

i'd take the bands out, throw that hat on (better yet, get a wool one) for a month or two and wash once a week with all natural soap and throw the dreadhead crap in the garbage.

If you want to keep the bands in, just be extra vigilant to not let your hair suck them in. Be careful about the wax usage. I think your hair will lock up, but it will be different than what you are expecting.

The wispies are part of it, and part of the look. You can 'sew' them back in with a crochet hook, but they'll come around on their own or, even cooler, give rise to new baby locks.

They drop when the grow, as the roots loosen up. DHHQ's instructions are pretty good, they're products can and do work, but aren't necessary.

The less you maintain the roots, the less your scalp shows. Just to say.

Anyway, great start! I can't wait to see pictures further along your journey.

    Namaste

    Week 2:
I showered and washed my hair today. After getting out of the shower and while my hair was still damp I added the dhhq stuff and I know people say its not needed and to do things like throw it out but here's my 2bits. I paid for it, I own it. If it helps, even in the littlest bit, throwing it out or not using it would be a waste of money I can't get back.

Anyway. way more fuzzies but I guess its to be expected they get worse before getting better. I don't know what else to say or do so I'm just going to leave them. The most work I've done with them over the past week was the clockwise rubbing of the roots.

    enjoy life

It may seem like that now, but in the long run you dont wanna end up with a pair of generic lookin, salon dreads do ya?

    just ebay it...

yeah that shits not going to help even in the littlest bit... its only going to hurt... Trust me I took the same route you did and i regret it everyday although mine are good now... it took almost a year to reverse the effects DHHQ shit had on my locks. throw it out

oh and definently get those rubber bands out... those DHHQ rubberbands are impossible to get out if you leave them in to long and when you attemp to remove them all you will miss at least one...then find it a year later and be horrified.

yeah they aren't the dhhq elastic bands. they are some 'ouchless' plastic kind and they are weak. I wake up and there a bunch of broken ones on my pillow. I rub the roots and more come out. so slowly and surely they are all coming out, I'm just letting them take their time.

What did the locking stuff do to you're dreads? now you got me worried :\

"generic lookin, salon dreads" are not what I'm looking for. But I also don't want a rats nest. um... its like a garden? if you leave the plants they grow, if you tend the plants they'll reward you with much better produce. So by that analogy I don't want wild untamed growth, but I also don't want manufactured farm fields. I'm looking for a backyard garden.

hopefully that made sense to other people, it works in my mind.
    have fun.

I forgot who said this but whoever said it posts in this forum a lot, but anyways its all I'm going to say. If you manufacture your dreads, they're jsut another hairstyle

Take out those ridiculous bands! :) And honestly, if you leave out all the product, you'll be so much happier. Your roots will loosen up if you leave them alone, and the dreads will lie flatter, and everything will tighten up nicely if you just let your head do what it likes. I found my dread garden grew much better, and looks so much nicer, just by leaving it to itself. These aren't monsters, are they? ;)
