...to be one of those Christian Right fundamentalists?

Or just in general, to not be easy-going and mostly freethinking and accepting and have a sense of humor? Imagine you're John Ashcroft for a moment.

I mean, what kind of music could you enjoy?
What would you do for fun?
    What would you read?
    Who would your friends be?
    How would you express yourself?
How would you get to KNOW yourself?
How would you express your love for people?
How would you maintain a variety of interests when all other cultures, sexualities, expressions of masculinity and feminity, and ways of life are unworthy of your attention?

It boggles my mind if I think about the life perceptions of, for example, Dr. James Dobson for too long.

I think that the fundalmentalists find security in uniformity. They attempt to build a mold that you must fit into . Once you fit this mold there is a feeling of community. They network and find secure jobs and work their families into these positions . Boring? It probably is , but not as boring as unemployment and or being ostracised.

The christian fundamentalist play the game and fit into organizations. People who don't support nuclear families, and don't play the game find it hard to support themselves unless they are very independent financially. Maybe the closet is an answer?

The last post confused me a bit, but I'll agree, it must be hardest of all to "deviate" in such families.

I mean, what kind of music could you enjoy? Hymes
What would you do for fun? Go to church and yell at gays and jews
What would you read? The bible
Who would your friends be? The preacher-man and your parents, as well as some kids from bible camp
How would you express yourself? By going to Confession every week
How would you get to KNOW yourself? By praying day and night until you figure it out
How would you express your love for people? By conviceing them to come to church anf "find" God, and also by giving the pagan assholes cross necklaces.
How would you maintain a variety of interests when all other cultures, sexualities, expressions of masculinity and feminity, and ways of life are unworthy of your attention? Wow that was a well-written question.

I don't have anything against any religion, if someone wants to believe in something, then good for them... I'm happy. I don't agree with all religions, and even dislike some of them, but i respect them enough to ignore them, and rather than see the religion that someone has, but rather the person they are..

But what I don't like about the christian right fundamentalists is that they generally don't seem to have any free will. They have not made up their own mind on what's good or bad, or what their morrals are, but rather have been told what to believe, and told that anyone who thinks any diffrent is wrong, and should be converted (for their own good).

If I ever talk to anyone like that, I tell them about Hank, and hope that they realise the moral of the story (and start to question themselves, rather than be blindly lead).

You're right. I wasn't talking so much about the religion that the Christian Right "culture" builds itself around, but the "culture" itself. The attitude. I can get all worked up and angry about the negative effects of the mass brainwashing, but in the end I only feel sorry for how boring it must be. It just seems like nothing is ever colorful or interesting unless you, ya know, explore the world.
