How Long Would you Put up with Tooth Ache Before you Visited a Dentist...

And a Broken Nose...Before you Visited a Doctor?

Or Possibly...Would The Pain and Numbness Cease to Exist After a Certain Length of Time?

    MP,

How long since the door and your nose had the meeting? If it's been a short while then put ice on it and keep it cool.

From my own experience, pain can be utilized to speed healing; this does not mean seek pain as a means for healing but when an injury occurs the immediate response is to pull away or avoid what is causing the pain - this is most often a good thing. But once the initial injury has happened I have learned that tuning into the sensations and other awarenesses (includng pain) directly related to the injury clearly appears to speed healing process. This "tuning in" also includes becoming aware of your wish or want ('prayer' if you like) to be healed of the injury. When tuning into the sensations at first the sensations become "louder" or "more" but then a detachment occurs whereby one begins to feel more comfortable. Using this technique requires "the heart" or proper desire in order bring about the 'will power' to perform it. I see this as a form of Vipassana and Shamatha meditation - it works.

    :)

    MP,

For now, I'll add one more concept to that last post. When one tunes into the sensation it is important to become aware (continously note) how one reacts to the sensation; is there a resistance, if so then practice acquiesing so as to become more aware of the sensation (some say "open up to it" - same thing).

    Peace,

    David

If you have the ability to see a doctor, do it. I had to take care of Daniel when his tooth abscessed and the infection spread to his jaw and trust me, it was painful enough to watch. He described it as the worst pain he's ever felt and it was so hard to watch him writhing in the fetal position in tears, and know that all I could do was desperately attempt all the home remedies I knew. Teeth aren't something to fuck around with and if you get an infection, it can eventually kill you.
