Anyone into video editing in the Linux environment? What software do you use? I'm interested in doing video editing at a fairly high level with filters and the like such as what I've done with Vegas in a Windows environment. Many of the codecs that are used in video are kept proprietary by the companies that write them, which can be a problem for people that want to do sophisticated editing in a Linux environment. .
Cinelerra and blender are by far the best. http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3 http://www.blender.org/ If you're looking into working with proprietary codecs on linux, good luck, but I did read about FFMPEG being able to convert some propriatary codecs. It looks quite complex and experimental though. http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/
There are different progs a powerfull tool is cinepaint for encoding you can use mencoder or ffmpeg.... hope it helps....
I thought there was a version of the adobe video editing suite for Linux now - I'm sure I saw one about 3 years back - hmmm maybe I was dreaming or summink like that - now u mention it - cant think of one
there are no codecs yet that Linux has a problem with. i have absolutely every proprietary codec installed on my Linux system and have no problems whatsoever, yes including the infamous flashplayer9. i use Kino for editing. Kino handles every codec and combo you have installed on your system. it is very easy to learn but i have not done any deep editing in it. here is one of the video's i made with Kino: Prelude Video although the sound was delayed in some parts, that was due to the original video that was recorded from a digital camera. ___ what distrobution of linux do you plan on using and what linux desktop environment? there are a million to choose from but i usually recomend Ubuntu 6.10+ or Fedora Core 6. i can help you get your proprietary codecs and video editors working on those two distro's if you need it.
Thanks. Looks like Ubuntu is moving along. I will try it. I want Linux in the computer, not booting from a disk or the internet. .
