Um, I haven't lived in Baltimore, but there are a lot of alternative activites going on, like Food Not Bombs, Baltimore Free store, Red Emmas Cafe (http://www.redemmas.org). http://redemmas.org/links/ has a list of baltimore resources I was thinking of moving to B-more since its less expensive for me.
What kind of info are you looking for? I moved here in 2004 knowing nothing about the city either. I'll help if I can!
