My senior project in highschool is recording a live jam band show. I have been DLing for years and have a growing collection of shows. I hope to record, mix and upload a show onto archive. please, any tips or sources for info would be greatly appreciated

get a pair of mics, neumans are great....high quality condensor mics will get you the best recording. try to set up where the sound guy is (thats usually dead center) some places really suck for us sound guys though, so don't always trust that. well, if its a big show, with a taper section your stuck. but if its a more liberal small band, just go for the best spot, dead center, with the mics in an X/Y pattern.....
have the mics at a 90 degree angle and angle it to where each mic has a side of the stage....and get it kind of high, like atleast head high, maybe a little higher like 6 or 7 feet....

great project. are you allowed to use a soundboard patch? or do you need to prove miking for the sweet spot skills?

well placed mics can actually be better than a SBD recording....you can get a bit of the crowd (feels like your there) and get a great mix of the music.....orchestras are usually recorded with two or three room mics.....well placed mind you, but still room mics....check out this page.....

the XY patter or the MS stereo will be you best mic technique.....

also, make sure you bring your own power source. many times you'll need it, sometimes you won't, if the venue is cool.

if anyone wants to be my outside expert, pm me with your email or email me at qudnanotb@aim.com. All i need is to communicate via email (so i have proof of an outside expert) with anyone who tapes. Also, it will require little work and you do not need to be an expert, anyone with some basic info will be a great help. Anyone who wants to do this will get me one step closer to graduating. thanks everyone for the help and support.
