Well im 18, I used to be able to drink spirits reasonably, but nowadays I cant handle most, they just make me feel sick. I've always puked up the most after having spirits, once had a really bad whiskey trip in which I got so bad I could barely walk the next day!!! Probably just me being a lightweight but sometimes I feel left out as some of my friends do it, and I dont feel like a proper drinker just drinking beer while they are downing spirits. I love drinking just beer though, its a lot more relaxing and I like that tipsy feeling after you've knocked a few down.
whiskey "trip"? whatever.... anyway, i love some liquors (mostly scotch and rum....but i can get down with some irish or canadian whiskey, or top-shelf tequila like cabo wabo...and i enjoy gin and vodka in cocktails) but theres almost nothing i'll do more than one or two shots of in a night, and usually if i'm doing shots i do really small shots. otherwise they get halfway down my throat and change direction really fast. i swear by buying quality spirits intended to be sipped, like a good scotch or brandy...i prefer single malts myself....but higher quality liquor that you sip on will be less likely to make you sick. of course if you drink anything in excess you can get pretty sick, but i'll nurse a glass of whisky (with maybe two shots and just a splash of spring water or maybe an ice cube or two) for about half an hour....drinking slowly, sipping and savoring, and knowing its costing you more, will help you know when to quit and will be far less likely to trigger your gag reflex or something and make you spit it out... i can do a regular shot of something like a sweet dark rum (appleton estate, goslings black seal, myers original dark) a spiced rum (sailor jerry's spiced navy rum is my favorite spiced rum, but captain morgans private stock is ok, too....never drink regular captain, though, its gross and overpriced) or even blended whiskeys/whiskies like jameson or tullamore dew or crown royal or segrams or even johnny walker..... course if you just find that liquor in any manner of consumption makes you sick, theres nothing wrong with that. there are more than enough terrific beers and wines in the world, and even some of the best beers in the world are cheaper than the best wines. a 750ml bottle of great beer running around 7-11%ABV (wine is usually 9-14%) is likely to cost anywhere from 6 to 12 bucks, and i'm talking about some of the best beers out there (chimay, for instance) whereas the best wines in the world will cost an arm and a leg....at the shop i like to go for liquor usually, they have bottles of wine that cost over 200 bucks.... if you have the money to spend, it may be worth it, but i dont and i like beer just fine! i'll stick to $30-60 scotch, $12-25 dollar bottles of rum or vodka, and top shelf beer (the price can be justified as top quality beer is more affordable as a general rule than top notch varieties of almost any other alcoholic beverage...even my standby, rum....you can get GREAT rum for 20 bucks or less, but the best of the best is aged and expensive....especially well aged stuff....if i were a rich man, my home bar would definitely be stocked with this: http://randalls.stores.yahoo.net/rws25223.html) but yeah, as much as i love liquor, as a general rule i hate shots. i'll sip my scotch or brandy or even rum, i'll drink mojitos or gin and sparkling mineral water with lime slices (i fucking hate tonic water), i'll drink martinis, some rum goes great in grapefruit juice, i like making extracts of coca leaves with vodka and adding it to coca cola, all sorts of mixed drinks..... but i almost never drink shots, and when i do, its rare for it to be more than one or two in a night. and i need time in between the shots, too. if i dont do it this way, i get sick. after shots i need to sip on it.
What did you mean by saying ''whatever'' when i said ''whiskey trip'', I basically ment I had a bad moment with it, I assume you think I ment some stoner terminology though in which I dont do. Anyway, cool insight you have there. I could probably manage sipping them slowly, its just my friends tend to buy a shot and completely down it in one go, if they saw me just sipping they'd make fun and say ''They are in shot glasses because they are ment to be downed in one go''. Its just whiskey I cant stand the smell of anymore (I have this habit of not being able to take some things Ive puked up over, and whiskey ive never recovered from), and that was a really bad night. I drank almost a whole bottle of Jagermeister once at a party and puked everywere, only taking quick sips out of the bottle though each time, but that stuffs pretty nice. I'm very into foreign beer though nowadays, beverages like ''Leffe'' and ''Erdinger'' are a couple of examples and are very nice. I also drink a fair bit of cider, ''Magners Irish Cider'' is a favourite, especially ice cold. I guess i'm just much more of a pint person, but it sometimes feels as if im not a proper drinker if I cant handle my spirits.
if your friends make fun of you for drinking your beverages slowly, they're just being jackasses. drink for enjoyment, dont drink to impress people. if you find it more enjoyable to sip your liquors, as i do generally, then go for it. if you're self conscious about it, just order beers at the bar or whatever. top shelf liquor is USUALLY meant to be sipped.... personally i'm biased against bourbon, but only because of a BAD experience with some buffalo trace......but then, there are some rare occasions where i will be ok to drink a little bitty bit....but buffalo trace itself will probably never again touch my lips. it was good stuff, but after drinking almost a fifth by myself, along with some beers and smoking some pot....god...painful memories! but if i'm out i'll go for a shot of good rum and drink a single shot and follow up with beer or wine, or if i'm feeling rich a glass of scotch and follow that with beer. but fuck it...drink what you want and how you want it. while i will recommend scotch highly, not everyone likes it and it can definitely be an acquired taste, and good stuff isn't cheap. a "cheap" single malt (like isle of jura 10 year) is still like $30+ for a fifth. if you get it at a bar, its going to be DAMN pricey. a week or so ago i went to a pub and got a glass of macallan cask strength and a nitro can of old speckled hen....thats ALL i got....and my tab was 14.50....11 dollars for the glass of scotch (only about a shots worth) and 3.50 for the beer. scotch is definitely a good candidate for something nice to keep at home for special occasions, or to just sip on a glass or two and unwind... but if you like it, i can't recommend that macallan cask strength enough. i'm not sure whether or not i prefer it to the 12yr, but it was damn good, very strong (nearly 60%ABV according to their website, but i dont know the exact level), very complex, very nice and tasty. wish i could have enjoyed a cigar with it, but theres the damned smoking ban... anyway, i guess i dont know what to say, except dont listen to your friends if they rag on you for nursing your drinks. drinks are made to be enjoyed above anything else, and if you dont enjoy shots then its stupid to drink shots!
I tripped once when I was 14 and drank an entire bottle of Black Label, and downed about 16 various psych meds And yes, I have come closer to death, but always skate off, never even techincally OD'd
no offense, and its not my business, but i'd be DAMNED careful if i were you relayer.... its dangerous enough to do too many drugs and drink too much, particularly when we're talking mixing opiates with booze like you like to do (and who doesnt enjoy the feeling?)...but what with having a kid and all...... like i said, i know its not my business, and i dont know the entire situation, but please at least try to be as careful as you can. i'll butt out now, though. sorry to bring it up, sort of...
No man its cool, Im trying to stop actually And your right, my kid comes first so I need to stay alive for him! Thanks for looking out for me bro
thats cool then. i really dont like to chime in like that when i know its not my business, and a lot of people have a "get off my case" attitude about it....but i just have noticed how you bring up the opiates so often, along with lots of alcohol....we're both really young and its normal to drink a bit and occasionally indulge in other stuff....but it can be dangerous for sure, and having a kid is a big responsibility. glad to hear you're trying to take care of yourself though just be careful
