Ever remember Lindows - I remember the company had to change the name of the O/S but what became of it? is it or was it any good?

Lindows is now known as Linspire. Linspire IS linux, just like Lindows is linux. it just uses outsourced software to run windows software. not that you need that expensive stuff when you could get it for free for linux.

    Linspire, just google it.

oh right is it any good tho?

I mean whenever I've run "Wine" and other windows emulators they failed to actually run most of the stuff I hoped they could run, so I was forced to go back to MS XP

yeah, linspire uses an emulator that is suppossed to be 99% fool-proof. i forgot what it is called but you can get it for linux too. it is suppossed to cost money but some ppl get it for free. i think the name starts with a "Q".

my experiences with Linspire werent good. i downloaded it twice and burned it to disc 4 times but my version would never boot past the Linspire screen. maybe there is improvemenst now. you should download and have a look. to get it, first try their website, then try the bittorrent websites out there. i got one of my versions via torrent.

^that is my recommended site. if you havent used torrents let us know here. although confusing at first, torrent is the best thing that happened to downloads.

hey thats a brilliant idea - I just got a new computer - its just a dell desktop office machine so its sort of ok well its pentium 4 and its its got 512meg of memory on it - I may try using some VM ware on that - hmmm (thinks) after an upgrade of memory maybe.

Thanks for the suggestions too aderall - BTW I just wondered if you had burnt the cd's at a speed (example - on a drive at 52X ) but used the disks on a drive that couldnt read that fast - I always now burn operating systems at 4x I find they get less errors that way - I think I read somewhere that 4x is a standard for operating systems anyway

yeah, that is very true. 4x burning does the best but it can all depend on the drive and the discs. my old DVD burner worked really well until one day i couldnt burn an operating system image. i turned it down to 4x and it did just fine. eventually, the burner only worked on sony disc's for whatever reason. now it doesnt work at all and i replaced it with a sony DVD burner. lol.

hmm thats curious - If I didnt know better I would innocently assume Sony Corporation had nothing to do with that. After buying one of their TV's that is really awful at holding a picture, and a Sony stereo that distorted so much I junked it after a year, I wouldnt trust anyone working for Sony or any of their goods - erm... sure you never got hit by their dodgy Digital Management Rights scam they pulled last year?

i was never a victim of the Digital Rights Managment thing but i read a lot about it. are you refering to the Audio CD's sold with viruses written into the data by Sony Music, or is it the music encoding crap that doesnt allow one to play a song on more than one device...? i hated both and thought they were rediculous. i used to purchase music from Apple iTunes for years until they did that crap. now no-one gets my money for music. it is there own fault too.

other than Sony Music Coprs, Sony can produce some decent material. not everything has been great but the CD-R's and the DVD burners are good. i think that Sony generates more durable products than many companies. although not always the most functional or bleeding-edge. honestly, i cant say Sony hardware has ever given me a problem but their Music branch is rediculously controlling and 'money-fat'.

I think it may be that some of sony's goods are manufactured in the UK perhaps or perhaps in the USA you get a better class of manufacturer - Sony once did have a great reputation in Britain but its declined a bit since then and Denon and others have taken their place - but thats the price of tomatoes for you - up and down like a steam-hammer

A company with a similar name "Sanyo" Used to make some brilliant speakers to go with their stereos - I must find out what happened to em and buy some of their stuff again

this is a piccie of my first ever sanyo music centre
