Was just thinking that it's amazing that he was 27 when he died!!

I was 27 in may!! It amazes me to think that he wrote all he did by 27. A lot of people slag off his poetry but I think it was beautiful. I've read a lot of poetry by a lot of famous artists and I seriously think his is some of the best I've ever read. In book and song. Viva la Jimbo!!

Aye, 27 is the year of rock and roll death, Mr Valis. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and the great blues legend and inventor of rock and roll himself Robert Johnson... all died age 27.

I've just made it through myself, but frankly I have mixed feelings about that: if you live to be 28, you just ain't rock and roll!

I agree that Robert Johnson was a great blues artist, but he didn't start rock 'n' roll...rock 'n' roll was the name given to rhythm and blues when a radio DJ in America started to play it on "white" radio. He called it rock 'n' roll (slang for sex back then) so that people wouldn't realise he was playing "black" music. Those were the bad old days of segregation...

Oh, then some kid who drove a truck called Elvis came and stole the idea :p

I think you're picking nits there young man... Johnson was a blues innovator who pioneered the form which was later in large part stolen and popularised by the likes of Elvis. Therefore it's not unreasonable to call him the father of rock n roll.

I can agree with the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll" statement...blues influenced rhythm and blues which evolved into rock 'n' roll. But saying he invented it would be forgetting the artists after him that added the "rhythm" part :p

Sorry, I haven't had a heated debate with anyone on the forums ever, and now that a subject comes up that I know something about...I'm jumping at the chance :p

Now all I need is to get Dok Atomic in the thread, so I can swear at him a bit...then I'll be just like all the other forumers :D
