okay, I've had dreads before, I was young and dumb and did the wax thing, had them for a few years, was forced to cut them off, cut them up and realized I had candlesticks on my head. Well I kept short hair for about 5 years after that, I started growing my hair back out in 2004, from bald. In November 2005 I started to let my hair dread up on its own, au naturale, no wax, nothing. I wash it about 2-3x a week with Doc Bronners Tea tree oil. Well the back dreaded up pretty tight within the first 6 months, but the top and the sides remained straight. I have very thick/fine hair, caucasian, average oil I guess, no dandruff or anything, always had pretty healthy hair. I have now been letting my hair dread up naturally for about the last 16 months, i've backcombed certain sections in the last 6 months with some success, and i've palmrolled from time to time. Even tried the wool hat thing for about a week (got tired of being constantly static charged) I know my hair WILL dread, and the majority of it is, it has shrunk ALOT, below my shoulders when I started, and now 16months later it's mostly above my shoulders except for the parts that aren't dreaded, which brings me to where I want some insight/encouragement: I have been very patient, but I still have ALOT of places that either aren't dreaded at all or they are very short, soft dreads (at least they're fat). I'm not sure what the problem is, I know that eventually my whole head will be covered, but i'm frustrated and looking to hear some opinions, suggestions, or stories of other people that have had to be EXTREMELY patient.....I wish I had a pic but no digi cam. So, what do you think?
Hey glad you got your dreads back. The only thing I can think of to help is maybe doing the salt water soak and rinse, it should help "lock" them up more, but make sure you rinse well or you will have a salt mine on your head! LOL
