I can't believe that no one mentioned Santana! I voted for Page, but Santana's in my top 3. Somebody google Santana and watch his Woodstock clip of Soul Sacrifice. It's freakin' rad.
SRV is, along with Hendrix, my favourite guitarist, but he was blues, or (very bluesy) blues-rock. BILLY DUFFY!!!
A lot of people are sayin' Hendrix. Hendrix was great, but Page is a wizard, and the bow was his magic wand.
George Harrison for me. What can i say? I mean I am a Beatles fan. Next would be Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. Their both amazing as well.
Jimmy Page. He was a true guitar god back in his prime. Had it been a poll about the best, not favourite, I would've gone for Ritchie Blackmore, though he was missing.
Hendrix wins my vote, not only because i dig his music but also because I have read about him and from what i have read he practiced so hard to get to were he got to and put so much effort into learning guitar.
This is a partial list, not in any particular order. Some are better than others. I find a lot of guitarist, and musicians in general may shine on one tune but be ho hum on another. Music preference is so often a personal, individual thing that sometimes changes from day to day. I voted for Hendrix but David Gilmour was close. Duane Allman Alvin Lee Dickey Betts Colin James Robert Fripp Steve Morse John Petrucci Eric Johnson Fran Zappa Gary Moore Paul Gilbert Greg Koch Jimi Hendrix Jeff Healey Henry Garza(los Lonely Boys) Mark Knopfler Rusty Burns (Point Blank) Kim Davis(Point Blank) Prince Brian May Robin Trower Steve Vai Trey Anastasio Dave Flett (Manfred Mann Earth Band)
I have to conform and say Jimi Hendrix, though he is my favourite. Too bad he had to go and die, huh?
The BEST are. 1. Jimi Hendrix 2. Stevie Ray Vaughan 3. Billy Duffy 4. Johnny Marr 5. David Gilmour 6. Eddie Van Halen 7. Jeff Healey 8. Steve Vai 9. Kirk Hammett 10. Gary Moore 11. Jimmy Page 12. Frank Zappa 13. Jeff Beck 14. James Hetfield 15. Carlos Santana But my FAVOURITE has to be SRV (hence my signature.)
Led Zeppelin plays some of the closent examples of perfection as ive ever heard. Jimi page had to have something to do with that. If only i could have seen him live.
Can some of the folks that have mentioned different guitar players post particular songs that represent the best of their recordings? Thanks
