My friend suffers from UNBAREABLE stomache pains when its her time of the month. I feel so helpless to help her, and i wish i could even just give her some advice. She wont go on the pill, because there is a slight posibility of infertility, and she just doesnt want to anyway. Do any of you girls out there know something or ANYTHING that could even just help her a bit so the pains arent unbarable?

    Thanks

    Peace

Reiki? I can do distance Usui Reiki if she's interested, she should probably go to a doctor to see if theres anything seriously wrong...heating pads are also good.

Honestly, before I started the pill, sex was my best form of cramp relief. I couldn't take ibprofen (spelling?) or asprin, and much like your friend I was usually debilitated for well over a week. Obviously that's not always an option, but I find heating pads and sit-ups also help. I did yoga for a little while, which helped tons, more than anything else besides sex, but I had to stop that because of a nasty back/leg injury. Suggest to your friend to look into some basic yoga, or do some simple exercise. Good luck :)

Oh! Hot baths help too :) Those are just fantastic for overall relaxation of muscles, they certainly help with period pains...

i was prescribed to birth control for period pains and they pretty much stopped after taking the pill for a couple of months.
of course that may not be feasible for your friend... i suggest doubling the dosage of ibuprofen. instead of taking two for pain, take four. it won't hurt ya. in fact, a doctor told me it was ok to do. it really helps too.

stretching, regular daily stretching, someone mentioned yoga, or pilattes (sp) and although she might hate the idea, walking while breathing deep, the worse thing for stomach cramps is to curl up, even tho its the most comfortable thing it wont stop the muscles cramping up.

Stretching and at least 70% bitter dark chocolate always does the trick for me.

I have the same problem, but I don't know if it's caused by the same reasons. Do you know if she has ovarian cysts? That's what the majority of my menstrual problems are caused by. They have medication for it, but it's possible to be very allergic to it. I am, so I was told to to take triple to quadruple doses of Motrin. She will definately want to check with a Dr. if she tries that though. I know the pill has helped a lot of people, but in my case it made it worse. Heating pads do tend to help, as has been suggested. Although, some people respond better to cold. I hope that's somewhat helpful.

    Hey, thanks a million everyone,
What i got to suggest her is basically "a heating pad or water bottle, stretching exercises or yoga (and do not curl into a ball), and drink plenty of water."
She does not like pills she told me, though thanks for everyone's comments.

Hopefully when she is next having a bit of pain, these things will help. None the less, I will ask her to go to the doctor then though, because like people said maybe there is something more to it. But probably it is just one of those hard things she will have to get over in life.

But thanks so much for all the suggestions again people, cuz i was and remain totally out of my league in this area.

Tell her to go to the doc and ask about endometriosis. If she's in that much pain, it's very possible. If she doesn't get it checked asap, that could lead to permanent infertility. It may also be the cysts.
I used to have AWFUL cramps, too. I mean horrible, screaming, crying, hunched over for 3 days, unberable cramps. A few times I had to go to the hospital for the pain. For a while I thought that I was dilusional and not good at managing pain, but when I went into labour with my daughter and didn't think that pain was too bad...infact, I preffered that over my old cramps....I knew it wasn't all in my head.
I did get an ultrasound done, though right before I got pregnant and found out that I had cysts.
Thankfully, now that I've had my daughter, I don't get cramps anymore....hehe, and now that I'm pregnant again, no more periods either, lol
But yeah, tell her to definately go to the doc.
If he/she doesn't find anything, the remedies that everyone on here suggested were great. I always put a hot water bottle on my belly and my back...heating pads are even better. That was the ONLY thing that would help me to sleep. Too many times the tylenol/asprin/any other pain reliever didn't work and I would curl up with lotsa blankies and my hot pads.

Make sure that she is not put on birth control unless it's your last option, as it's only going to play with her hormones until something worse comes along because of it.
Get your physician to do tests, I had a friend who suffered from endrometriosis and she too suffered from unbareable cramping, it's always good to make sure it's not something serious like that and then treat it as naturally as you can if it isn't.
