I'm about sick and tired of people sticking their noses in the air claiming that they'll only listen to non-mainstream music, like they are better and cooler, more knowledgable of music because of it. To me it seems like many people are being posers...I'm sorry but why can't people just like what they like and not care if everything is mainstream or not. Some of the best and most influential musicians were non-mainstream musicians that becamse mainstream...Did you hate them once they hit the radio? Call them sell-outs even? Maybe it's better that decent musicians are getting air play so the crap that shouldn't be called music at all gets less air play and people can hear what real music is all about.

    * I'm not saying that non-mainstream music is bad just give everything a chance

well first of all, people claiming to Listen to only "non-mainstream" aka underground music and claiming they know "more" about music because of it are stupid, because obviously to be totally up on music you have to listen to all genres (excluding Country and Music Made my computers) to really appreciate and learn on the subject. personaly i like underground music, and although the majority of it is just krap compared to mainstream music, there are a tonne of underrated artists that will never see the light.

I know what you both mean yeah I listen to a wide range I have even listened to some 30s music and I would never proclaim to know about music only I've enjoyed it, I think there is a group that will listen to the charted radio station that play only the top bands and because they do makes them cool but its always been that way and I think thats what people who are anti mainstream are rebelling against so I understand both sides it

I love when underground bands have people listening to them, and those people are the ones that say they only like non-mainstream stuff, and then when that band becomes popular...they are considered mainstream, that creates this big thing where stupid people make their own "non-mainstream" music popular. Unless they suck, in which case ten years from now, those people will be like "wow, this music sucks".

No real point to this post, just like hearing myself...type?

I dont mind people saying that they only listen to underground...that doesnt bother me coz i know lots of ppl who do only listen to underground bands coz they dislike mainstream ones. It bothers tho me when an previously underground band, from a primarily underground genre ( such as Goth metal or punk- coz i have heard someone use this arguement before in a magazine), starts to get lots of recognition, suddenly becomes popular and the fans of that band get all sanctimonious abt it. They say that these bands should stay underground and not become ' mainstream'. That just pisses me off! One of the reasons you like a band is coz they make great music and if u like them and are a genuine fan then ull want to let other people hear them too and spread it around! You dont get all touchy just coz other people are getting into that band! These people should be happy that others are liking the same music as them and that their fav bands are doing so well!!

And that's my rant over for today! lol

    peace and love

you guys are fucking right. i do music at uni and everyone has their own interests, popular, folk, classical etc but people fail to see the value of all music. i do think there is something to be learned from all music and this superior bullshit that one music is better than another is fucking bollocks. so you hate a 'popular' band, please feel free to step up and do better.

    i love you all ;)
    peace
