i don't understand the controversy about reporters and soldiers having sex?

they were talking on larry king tonight about reporters in bed with soldiers and i didn't understand what the big deal was

Did they mean "imbedded" reporters. Those are reporters who are covering a war, but who depend totaly on the military for food, transportation and communication facilities. Even if the military doesn't actively use this to control what is reported, there is the issue that the reporters develop a personal relationship with the soldiers. (Maybe they even knock boots) The fears and stress of combat that cause platoon mates to care for each other so also act on the reporters, removing the objectivity that they are supposed to have.

 

What does "knock boots" supposed to me? Reporter accidently trips on the soldiers boots? heh

"Knocking boots" is an old euphamism for sexual intercourse.
