I need to get some rest myself. To clarify and illustrate my point: I'm all about people who are vegan, it's a beautiful lifestyle... but it's not for me. I do not judge vegans for their lifestyle, shit I even support it... but I do have to say a big "Fuck you" to everyone who judges me simply because I eat meat. Also, I love to eat babies. Nighty night
No. In this consumer based economy the demand of meat never goes down, shit... even if 100,000 people stopped eating meat all together in one single day, there would still be the same amount of animals murdered. Plus... millions of rodents and so on are murdered during vegetable farming process... why don't you stop eating veggies and save those poor souls? Killing something for survival has nothing to do with what you feel. Survival is an INSTINCT... it has nothing to do with worth. I would love to eat a vegan. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually, that is complete bullshit- if 100,000 people stopped eating bacon and moved to turkey, OBVIOUSLY more turkey would be supplied, that is common knowledge. The same goes for soy to eggs, milk, meat, whatever... And to answer your question about veggies...I realize that in harvest many animals are killed- yet, this can never and will never stand up to the BILLIONS that are killed directly and personally because of the meat industry...and, if you understood the cycle- it is estimated that for every one acre of plants that a vegetarian requires to be fed, a meat-eater requires ten acres of crops, plus the given animals (due to the simple fact that the animal must be fed every single day, on end) By supporting the meat industry you are promoting waste (what happened to those ten crops of plants- and why do you think Old McDonald and his cronies are choppin' into the rainforest?) and unnecessary deaths. I must go for tonight though, sorry if I came of callous, you must understand, I'm only an angry vegan.
My point is that 100,000 people are not significant enough of a number to change the supply/ demand quota. Also, I know all there is to know about the veggie facts and so on. I actually seriously considered becoming a vegetarian, but I just found it to be a silly, expensive lifestyle which I'd be forced to break while backpacking to countries where it's unheard of anyhow. I do eat much more veggies than meat, but... like I said... I don't feel a tad bad for eating meat, no sir.
I'd love for you to explain to starving 3rd world children why you would rather starve than be responsible for the death of a chicken.... you angry over the deaths of animals is just disgusting when you consider that if even half of the meat america ends up tossing out went to feed starving people in other countries...well.... that'd obviously be a lot less starving people. perhaps you should find a new fight, a more worldly and respectable one.
Uhhum, 99.9% of all vegans have never experienced true hunger and poverty. I would love to see a hardcore vegan in a starve vs. eat meat situation... lets see how far this rhetoric goes.
This may seem extremely heartless, but because of those starving children I never ever turn down a mean or a snack when offered. i eat everything.... in my opinion, being picky in such a privileged society is simply grotesque. if i could do anything to help even just one starving, impoverished child, i would... but at the moment i can not. so i will just eat everything that would otherwise be thrown away. ....that's not insane, is it?
First of all, I would like to know where you get yournotions of humans being to superior to animals in moral decision making, or in any other way. Is the why the world is so fucked up? because OTHER animals are stupid? lets not forget that we too are animals. And if you're going to be a vegan because you dont want to kill things then you should just kill yourself. Plants are living creatures, and yes they do have emotions. Trees have supersonically been recorded to "scream" when cut down with a chainsaw. They may even have some intelligence too. When a tree is cut down around a group of trees, the group will begin to "scream" when a chainsaw is turned on fom that point forward. Bugs live on plants too, and millions die from pesticides when things are grown and harvested. Ever see the lion king? Circle of life baby. its like a wheel. Live with it or get run the fuck over, right? Oy vey...........
I'm the same way Chuck. I eat everything and always finish all the food in me plate. It just amazes me how spoiled some people are by this society. People refuse to eat things not only because of moral issues but also because things have a "wierd texture".... it's amazing.
Eww... All hippie children taste of Patchouli and tofu. I disagree with GratefulVegan... He is a very pushy vegan. This is exactly why I don't like PETA. Why do they feel the need to tell me what to eat? I have been a vegetarian before for ethical reasons, and even then I didn't support PETA or vegans/vegetarians who tried to put others on a guit trip because of their dietary choice. I love animals. I honor animals. In fact, you will never find another group who honered animals more than the hunting/fishing/gathering tribes of North America. They ate meat, but they also respected the animal greatly. A wise old hippie guy once told me he had raised a cow for food before. He said a lot of people told him that they thought it would be hard to eat a cow, but he told me "I feed that cow and provide it with what it needs to live. In turn, this cow supplies me with food too. It is the circle of life". It is really a beautiful thing when you honor the source like that.
Nothing can kill me other than ciggs! I just ate a pizza which had peperoni on it... dead meat for breakfast... how dare I?!?!
this thread illustrates the reason that people will always find some way to beleieve themselves superior to others. Let's look at some realities: animals die in agriculture. Some directly as a result of pastoralism, some indirectly as a result of cultivation. Since those crops also go into the animal feed chain, one extrapolation is that the developed nations could ship the products of cultivation as food aid, preferably with some as seeds to provide for later, and lessen the number of animals killed overall. For these people there is a moral value in abstaining from additional killing. Unfortunately, they don't always get that something dies to nurture something else. gluttony in your home does not feed people anywhere else. If I decide to make too much, and gorge, how does that help hungry Joseph who camps by the river in a cardboard shack? Humans are not at the top of the food chain. A keeper at the Denver Zoo was mauled by a jaguar. I have no doubt she would have been eaten for invading his territory, had people with guns not responded. picking up a lump of flesh in plastic and styro does NOT in anyway equate to either hunting or the pre-westernization concepts of "honoring" the animals. Personally, I suspect that cockroaches and viruses truly can claim a superiority: look at the evolutionary abilities.
I agree with you here. Eating because others don't have doesn't GIVE them any more food. It doesn't in any way help them. Or us, for that matter. It is no secret that the reason some people are starving isn't a problem of how much food we have, it is a problem of distribution. So the only way that would help was if you were to send the food to those who are starving. Wasting food isn't a good thing, however, it isn't the root of the problem. I try never to waste food, but I don't think it is going to help someone out that I eat the last slice of pizza...
