Why, with LINUX and OSX/MAC would anyone ever use windows? LINUX is a free operating system that has no worry of viruses or worms and the same goes for MAC.
for shizzle. "but but but... uhh!!! my new windows vista system is protected from viruses. windows vista will beat you up." "i use xxxSuperDuper Virusoid Protector Megazord. i cant possibly get a virus. it is rock solid." do people even realize how this software works? how can they claim to have the perogative to say stuff like this. lol. Linux rocks, BSD can come too.
I would buy a mac because it is better designed and has cleaner code than xp/vista at the moment I run a full Linux desktop and a Linux server very fast and stable a while ago I ran freebsd a verry stable OS....
awsome rayson! i have 3 harddrives and 1 has Fedora Core 6 Linux and the other has FreeBSD 6.2. FreeBSD is very stable. although, i am thinking about testing some other *Nix systems now. of coarse i will keep the Linux system though.
I think the reason people run Windows is because overall, it's a much better OS. It's easy to use for just about anyone... Yeah you get viruses, if you're an idiot. I've never had any virus on Windows. Apple is selfish. They don't share any product information with any other country, so buying parts and programs is a pain in the ass.
Not only that, Mac's do get virus' and the like now at a growing rate, so that elitism is definitely crumbling. Plus, nearly the only thing truly compatible with a mac is something also made by apple. Linux is just annoying. I'll stick with the ready-to-use, fully compatible with 99% of things worth having and overall stable XP Pro. I'm convinced that 99/100 people who have issues with windows are dumb fucks anyway. I've been running windows since 3.1 and I've yet to have any error not caused by the users. Same issues would have arrived on another OS. Think of how many people use windows vs mac / linux. The more people using an os = the better chance someone's going to find a way to fuck up.
windows/msdos is the worst series of OS's ever created. that is a fact stated in my COLLEGE OPERATING SYSTEMS BOOK!!!! too bad. and btw, a Microsoft Certified person will still get a virus while a Linux Certified person will never see one. i would rather spend an extra 10 minutes getting my soundcard to work then an extra ten times reloading my Windows before i LEARN THE HARD WAY to switch to OSX or Linux. but yeah, mac's run windows now, and windows gets viruses. so a mac can get a virus. +95% of all viruses affect windows. but viruses arent your only concern, are they? how about in windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME; ever heard of C:\CON\CON? yeah, immediate crash and Blue Screen of Death. windows requires very simple scripting or shell programming to hack into or crash over a network. no thnx. dont have time to screw with that. i would rather have a fast and stable OS that will always be with me and do exactly what i want. dont bash Linux if you have never used it in real life. its 10x's better than anything microsoft has ever produced.
Linux gets a bad rap from people that don't take the time to understand how to use it, personal ignorance. Fact is, Linux is open source which means EVERYONE can see the code, so their are MUCH more people to fix bugs, as opposed to a few thousand microsoft developers. On average Linux bugs get repaired within hours to a couple days (depending on your distro community) Linux is infinitely customizable, allowing you to set things up any way you want, and as time has gone by its gotten extremely user friendly, debian based OS's are easier to install than ANY windows I have ever seen, automatically detects connections and hardware without having to search for drivers. Linux distros come out with a new kernel on average about every 6 months.....Microsoft? 2-3 years. Linux Distros are already above and beyond ANY microsoft capabilities, even in eye candy, check out Beryl, Vista can't do THAT! Finally, software should be free and open source, not controlled by a monopoly.
You're running on a false sense of security. The only reason the competition's programs don't seem as quick to fuck up is because of the lesser amount of people messing with it. If either mac or linux were half as popular as windows, people would find a way to mess shit up. By the way, I did take A+ core and software, net+, xp pro, server infrastructure, novell 5.1 or whatever, and a few other courses, and am quite well aware of many flaws in programming, but I do still maintain that microsoft is far greater than what a few online communities will give them credit for.
if you used linux then you would not have said that. linux file permissions reflect a true networking operating system. you cant install any viruses without my root account. you cant get into my root account without my password. windows file permissions allow anyone to install a virus. the permissions do not block the root account at all. dont try to barrage me with Windows XP courses and .Net+ classes. they say nothing about the shortcomings of Windows.
It seems that both sides make some interesting points but still the way m$ approaches security is somewhat disturbing it is a fact that Linux has a better overall security scheme For example if you encrypt the swap partition, set your iptables correctly and also don't install unnecessary software on that system you will have a secure system.... Keeping it secure depends on how the user approaches security....
