*sighs* Me being a Junior in High School means that i have to scope out colleges and figure out what i want to do for the rest of my life..

it scares the sh*t out of me.

I thought i knew what i wanted to do but now it's looking impossible.
Writing is impossible. I worry constantly about if what i am writing is good enough for the Journalism Major or even the Creative Writing Major.

Gah! I have no clue what i am doing/going to doing. It bugs me. It's there every waking moment of my everyday life.

    I'm so scared and worried.
It makes me want to die inside.
I just want it to be over with.

Eh, no worries. I thought I knew what I wanted to do and then I changed my major three times :D

It's really not that hard to change from one academic department to another, so you could easily go from writing to engineering if you were so inclined.

Seriously, all you really need is a degree to get a decent job, and any college or university can get ya a degree if you do the work.

    Best of luck to ya!

Heh heh, guess you won't be inclined to change to the engineering department then :D

College is a lot of work, but as long as you enjoy what you're doing it's alright.

Just keep in mind, ALL college food sucks.

ive said this a million timaes, and I'll say it again......

tak time off and learn about yourself! you dont need to rush into college right after high school. If you aren't sure about what you want to study, save your time, energy, and money. I did for six years...I traveled and did a bunch of things my friends were unabl to do. So they went to college right after high school......do you know what MOST people my age are doing? Going back to school........for grad work, for a new degree. Its because they went in right when they were "supposed" to, and realized they HATE their major and/or cant find work in it.

But I took the time, and found something I really love to study. Im not in it for the money, but for my intrest and passion. In other words, I dont know if my major will pay off (Lord, I do hope so!) but I am enjoying every day

And I dont eat college food....I cook!

I definetly agree. I took 4 years before I decided to do any post-secondary education. I travelled, vollunteered abroad, worked seasonal jobs, got to know the world in general and saw how things really work out there.

In the end it wasn't a matter of choosing a program from a list of choices but rather seeking out what braught me bliss. I've since finished a 5 month certificate program and am now nearly half way through a 2 year diploma program. I'm currently studying heritage carpentry and millwork, and I'll have no problem at all finding a decent paying aprenticeship(getting paid to learn!) afterwards because I'll have an education AND experience.

This is all because I took the time to find MY path. Highschool can be a pretty big sham sometimes, and deliberately gives you a very narrow tunnel vissioned view of the world. So get out there and take a good look first, see for yourself.

Either way, you're 16! These should be the good times, don't make it too complicated for yourself now, because that will come on its own in a few years.

Good luck in your quest for higher education

    peace

...and ya, defineatly learn to cook, it really isn't that hard, in fact it's downright enjoyable and empowering(nothing beats freshly baked bread on a sunday morning). Folks from my program get together about once a week and have a potluck; lots of interesting food, plenty of wine, usually some impromptu jamming on the guitars and what not...good times

don't let them herd you through the system like cattle to the slaughter! Live without dead time and free your mind

    peace

haha im going through the same thing sotra. im trying not to let it effect me so much or stress me out. when you know what you want to do, you'll know. just give it time and dont worry about what the damn teachers say. i dont understand why they make us choose what we want to do at a freaking young age. more time could help but for now, just think about what you like and wouldnt mind soing for a really long time.

errrrr I wouldn't take this advice seriouslly.... I think 90% of people who dont go to college within the first year of graduating dont end up going to college....but thats just a stastic.

i agree with you all. im just getting my associates although i'm 22 im only went to community college because i had no idea what i wanted to do. back in high school, they pour nothing but college this and college that down your throat. i didnt know know what i was going to do next until two months after graduation and went to community. im finally finishing up getting my associates there and now who knows. but just know there is no timeline, at least not today with so many options. dont need to follow the blueprint of typical life for most. just do your own thing and your own path. its the only way you can be happy.

I'm also a junior is high school but I'm just trying not to worry about it too much...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to take at least a year off and travel around Europe, the states and hopefully India (assuming I can get enough money together), then after I've explored myself for a while (haha... I know that sounds cheesy) I'll go to school and really decide what I want to do with my life.

I've tried to tell my parents this... but they think I'm a little crazy... so hopefully it all goes well.

But I definitely agree with the idea of taking some time off

-Thank you everyone for the advice
