Hard to Handle from August 6th, 1971. They just rip the entire show. It has so many of those moments we are all lookin for. I've listened to that particular Hard to Handle more than any other song in my entire life and every time i listen to it i still get the same feeling i got the first time i heard it. My skin gets all goosebumpy, my brain feels like its buzzing, my scalp feels waves of goodness going through it... all this from music. thats what got me hooked. you can get it on archive.org but im sure you all knew that already!

You know what really helped? Bobby wailing his heart out on "Looks Like Rain" off of Without a Net.

i would say uncle johns band, i remeber hearing it and just playin it over and over, then i would say rosemary, probably because they were right next to each other on the cd i was listenin to haha but i remember thinking ive never heard a sound like this, and I LOVED IT after that i tried to get as much gd music as i could get my hands on, and sure enough my dad used to be a huge deadhead and had all of their albums :)

When I was still very young (grade school) I heard Casey Jones and Truckin, that led me to beg my mom for a tape, she got me Skeletons from the Closet, that began a life long love affair, I went to my first, last, and only dead show at RFK when I was only 12 years old, and since then my passion has grown to a full on obsession, collecting and trading. I have such a special place in my heart for the dead and I can't begin to choose one song...........something about this band has shaped my life, brings me up when i'm down, and somehow provides me with a shoulder to cry on. It's been about 20 years since I was a little kid and jumped on that bus........but man theirs no better place to grow up!

when i was like 15 and feeling down a friend put on Uncle John's Band; that was it. Then i heard Ripple - it was love at first hearing. When i could get tattoed, i got the dancing bears around my ankle. even through the stage where i had a mohawk i was jammin the Dead. only got to see them once but what a time it was.

anyone can jam out to the dead.
but you'll always veer towards dressing like deadheads.
it's almost impossible not too, lol.

i LOVE fire on the mountain, from the CD called "dead set".
i love the version of samson & delilah, little red rooster and fire on the mountain on this CD.

First one I heard was Box of Rain. It grabbed me, but the first one I heard and thought "holy fucking shit, man, this is amazing stuff" was the live version of China/Rider from Without a Net. Awesome song, definitely in my top 5 Dead songs ever.

after thinking about it, i remember listening to the St. Stephen (off of Skeletons) and being like "wow, i like this..." then they have i think right after it or a few tracks later is the "Love Light" and holy christ fuck, this is just balls out energy, powerhouse.....loved it.....actually the whole Skeletons album is a great way to get someone intrested in the dead.....there are some heady folks out there who have never heard it, don't know where to start and Skeletons is like a little starter kit that will give you a taste of many aspects of the dead....and from there you can choose where to sink your teeth....

When I was 11 in 6th grade I heard my first dead song. Since I have all older hippie brothers I was pretty much surrounded by the dead..The first songs I heard & loved were Touch of Grey, Truckin, & Casey Jones. But I really didn't get into em till about 9th grade. I heard my first Phish song in 6th grade too, Esther.:jester:
