I'm saying that the general term Hippie means people who pretend to be against the government and the man but infact just go toke up all day.

    'the general term'
i guess we need to define the different ideas of hippies here...

to me, it's a way of thinking and living and working with nature to make a better future - as well as enjoying life at the same time. we've only got one life, so live it. we have been given this beautiful world and we need to protect Mother Nature from those bastarding pigs who keep taking and taking greedily from the Earth who has so unselfishly given us life and so much to enjoy

Thats the real hippe. Most "hippies" are pretenders who just want to smoke and laze around all day.

which is in fact illegal, and therefore anti-gov't, in a fashion.

who's to say that doesn't start them wising up to what's out there & how things are really working? gotta start somewhere.

It is just a term used to label a group.

I think hippie is about being in mystical union with the one eternal consciousness and doing your best to love everyone. You don't necessarily have to fight the government. Some hippies don't want to fight at all. They just want to sing and dance and play. Other hippies want to destroy the government. But what they all have in common is the idealism, and an inner beauty that just wants to be friends with everyone and get along and love nature and what not.

What's wrong with that? Unrealistic, corny? Who cares.

You new folks need to go back to page one and see that this thread hinged on a topic that is well past the interest stage. You should let it die or reply to the initial intent of it, not just the heading.

There is another thread somewhere here on the board that deals with what is a hippy? That's where this discussion needs to move.

    http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=222005&page=1&pp=10

Unless you want to talk about protecting your right to move around the web without the government monitoring your use or your ISP promoting one site over another.

Not so. But so many of the youngsters here just seem to be interested in only themselves and the continuation of their current lifestyle. When I originally posted this thread it was even worse, now I am seeing a resurgence in those that are only interested in their own acknowledgement or satisfaction. You prove me wrong...what get's you going? What do you stand up and speak out against...anything?

Have any of you followed what the legislature wants to pass controlling your access to the net? Probably not why should you... mommy and daddy pay for your connection. You are just looking for tail, why should you be worried about access?

Because you know me oh-so-well.

I'd explain, but I don't have to justify myself to some bleeding ponytail pining for his pre-sellout hippy days.

well the REAL hippies WERE the activists. even the nonconfrontational boycotters like me. we did mostly wear long hair and wear and flash peace signs, but all the sex, drugs and rock and roll stuff came later, (well the drugs part did anyway), partialy as an attempt to discredit us. one which in a sense backfired by helping to swell the numbers of our immitators which certainly made our numbers all that much more impressive.

When I first read this post I was angry at the way people seem to think that young people today are wildly ignorant and that ‘most’ people are ignorant no matter what you teach them however after reading some of the replies I see why some people have jumped to those conclusions.

kids need to know how to save the earth if they want to have one.they need to be involved politically.my oldest daughter is only 8 and we already discuss how the government works, what she can do about it,how they control our private lives and what she as a person can do when she gets older. we talk about pollution and growing trees and emmisions.not all of us who claim to go the hippy way think its all about sex, drugs and rock-n-roll.i believe we need to do alot of things we dont do and the public schools dont empasize alot on what our children need to do if they want to live a peaceful life on a healthy planet.that is why i homeschool my children.i can teach them a broader variety of things that are needed for there survival

It's not a case of Young hippies don't care, it's just we live for today more.

Well tell me, what are we supposed to do that we aren't doing. I've signed all sorts of petitions, boycotts, I've piketed.... but you know there is only so much one single person can do. The internet isn't free anyways, you gotta pay someone to get an internet connection.

    I agree with you completely!
In this day and age most teenagers dont appreciate what our elders have done for us. The teenagers that do realise this is a dying breed.

Most of that stuff like MySpace, Blogs, livejournals etc I dodnt even know existed until last year. Alot of it I still dont understand.

I only come on the internet to relate to you good people in here, and research assignments.

Technology to me is not a big past of my life. Sure I watch a few hours of TV at night, but thats it. The rest of the time I'm outside: climbing trees or playing with my dog's. I think that people these days are too dependant on modern technology in all forms. They are forgetting their roots.

It really is a sad sight to see.
