1. The Hipforums announces it first ever fundraiser. After nearly 30 years online, we must ask our members and guests to help support the website. Thanks to years of ongoing financial support of our members, advertisers and volunteer admin staff, we have been able to keep the forums alive.

Now we must ask for help as available funds have all been used for our Internet server and other fees.

instead of being 22 and expected to go to law school or something and make a lot of money and be a professional. It would just be so much easier to build roofs or something. I wouldn't mind getting up at 5, as long as it was good, hoest hard work. but i have it ingrained in me that i'm better than that somehow. oh well

There are ways aruond it. Anyway, No one is really better than anyone else. Better off, maybe, but not better. Also, it isn't solely college educated people that make money. For example, my granfather was a gifted contractor and woodworker who had his own business. He made more money than my dad who is a dedicated psychlogist!!!!

You are better than that so go to law school, go to medical school, go for that masters in business administration - don't sell yourself short by taking the low road

Anyone can become a roofer, but not eveyone can become a supreme court justice, a hospital administrator, or a CEO in a fortune 500 company.

yea, but in 20 years your back won't need rods in it and in pain... but you'd probably get some sweet pills. Law school?... are you fucking serious... money over pain. and money can get you a lot of places in this world.

I'd rather be a roofer. Don't get me wrong, I have a 4.0 in college and I plan on making some money in this lifetime, but those jobs would suck. Maybe not those jobs in perticular but all the bullshit you would have to go through to get there wouldn't be worth it.....to me.

In any endeavor to reach the top you have to kiss a lot of ass, but once you caught a whiff of that rarefied air above and beyond the bullshit....how sweet would that be :H

Just scale back on the number of border patrol agents along the US / Mexico Border, and you've got 100,000 roofers ready, willing, and able (and cheap) [IMG]

I'll have my associates in May, but it may not be what I want to do. It will at least be a stepping stone towards something else, but I guess everything in life is a stepping stone on the way to wherever you are going...

Most of the jobs I've worked in my life have been awfully blue collar, which is exactly the opposite of what society expects of me (A skinny intellectual with really good grades)... but those jobs seem to save me from myself. I have a self-destructive nature, and blue collar jobs truly put me in touch with the core of physical work experience, they offer a distraction, an opportunity for self descipline, an opportunity to meet real people who actually have to do real work to survive day by day, and an amazing theraputic workout which leaves you too tired to think at the end of the day.

On the other hand, I'd probably go completely insane if I had to work such a job for more than a couple of months at a time, because it does tend to get awfully repetitive.

Repetition has forced me to leave quite a few jobs. I like hard work, but when its the same thing day in and day out.........I hate it.
