Ok, I know MOST of you are going to fight me on this. But I believe that Global Warming is not real. And for all those that say but there are studies to prove it....there are just as many studies saying that global Warming is not real, Possibly more. So I want to know Everyones oppinions, Is it real or not?
the question is moot. whether it is real or not, our species should make changes in our lifestyle for numerous reasons. who doesn't enjoy fresh air for example? people denying the reality of global warming look increasingly like they: a- financially dependent upon it not being true. b- unwilling or afraid of changing their consumptive lifestyle. c- also believe the earth is flat. d- all of the above. take a look at who finances those studies that find no evidence for global warming. when you factor out the scientists backed by oil companies, there is actually a massive consensus that it is a very real threat. the disagreements mostly focus on different estimates of the warming timeline. 2006 was the hottest year on record. use your head.
Even Exxon Mobil now believes in global warming, you can go to their website if you don't believe it.
Alright...so it got a little Hotter in the summer? So it went up a few degrees in the summer... Big deal! Its gonna get colder too. The differences in temperature are miniscule. Also I agree with you. People do need to make MAJOR changes in our lifestyle. But the fact is, Global Warming just isn't real. And btw 2006 wan't the hottest year, at least not in canada. I think it was 1980 at christmas time it was 70 degrees celsius. Is it from global warming? I don't think so! well anyway I gotta go..... I will talk more later. cya
As long as the "big money" and the decision makers ever increasingly believe in mainstream science and human influenced global warming, then it doesn't matter if some people deny global warming, they are free to believe in astrology as well for all I care. The conservative Prime Minister of Canada as well as George Bush have recently changed their mind and decided to accept global warming. As long as Exxon, and BP, and Toyota, and Honda, and Ford, and GM, and Bill Gates and Richard Branson, and Dupont, and OPEC, and the UN and the EU, and Republican governors of the biggest U.S. states (Pataki of NY and Schwarzenegger of CA), and Wal-Mart, etc, etc, as well as the vast majority of the "Left", believe in global warming that is more than enough for me. I sincerely hope Rush Limbaugh and his kind never accept global warming, and become increasingly isolated and extremist.
http://news.yahoo.com/fc/world/clim...I7CdNhxieAA;_ylu=X3oDMTA2ZGZwam4yBHNlYwNmYw-- plenty of articles here from various sources, many reporting that the hundreds of skeptical scientists who compiled the latest report were criticised as being too optimistic in their diagnosis. nevertheless, they all agreed that warming was almost certainly (the phrase that refers to a 90% probability) caused by human activities.
Honestly, I was a pretty strong believer until I really looked into it. What I think is a little funny / odd is the fact that in the 1970's, there was a big "Global Cooling" scare, which was proven false years later. When you really take into account that each side has equal amounts of propaganda injected into every word that comes out of their mouths, it makes you almost feel sick to your stomach - even if Global Warming has some truth to it, no individual could shake the planet enough to make somebody start caring about it - and if it became widely accepted, would we even be able to reverse what we have supposedly done throughout the history of mankind to pollute our environment? I'm still not 100% sure about what I think, as I'm standing pretty neutral and open-minded on this topic (with a slight curve toward disbelief). I think it could, in fact, just be the 1970's scare re-invented and manifested into modern times, but there's really no way to be completely sure.
Of course global warming is real. It has happened before.. the earth warms up. I suppose the argument is if its natural or if the humans did it. I think that it might be partially natural but we're speeding it along. If you don't believe in global warming, see some footage. I saw some the other day and it totally shocked me. The ice caps are melting pretty fucking fast. And the animals out there are drowning and starving. I saw a penguin standing by himself on a little piece of ice. It made me cry.
*I honestly believe that the world is flat!* Seriously though, no matter what you say, someone else will disagree with it. That's just the way the world works. Very few things are actually black and white. And with today's need for money people are going to come up with what they can to make you buy into their story. I.E Al Gore wants to make everyone think his movie is great so they go buy it and he gets richer! News channels want to say this or that just so they get raitings and in turn get more money. It's about money and making people buy into their gimick. The easiest thing to do is not worry about the whole damn global warming thing. Don't listen to the shit the media is feeding you because it's all propoganda! Just do what you can to make the world a better place. Don't drive all the time, buy more vegetables from local farmers, start your own garden, recycle what you can and reuse the rest of it! It's not complicated when you think about it. And instead of becoming a race of paraniod freaks we should shut the fuck up about this shit and just start living better lives. (Of course this isn't a perfect world and that's not necessarily going to happen over night.) But to answer you question, I can't. I don't know if it's real or not because I've heared the same bullshit that you have. I do know that the world is billions of years old and in the end, the human race is going to get shaken off like a bad case of fleas. The earth will take 5000 years and break down the shit we left behind and then a new race will evolve and grow. We aren't going to destroy the earth, the earth is going to destroy us. (That or, we are going to destroy ourselves... haven't decided yet!)
global warming or not , and being human combustions (I mean coal & oil, not stakes the cause of it or not, the point is, there are billions of people who want to lead our same lifestyle. Well this is not possible. It means that we should consider seriously the opportunity to step back and accept to do without a car , use way less power , greatly reduce our not biodegradable waste, maybe even keep our damned PCs unplugged six days a week. And this means , among other things, to avoid day for day to buy that nifty thing that later we'll have to throw away. But in order to do this we have to undergo a massive change in economy and society (you cant tell the average worker not to own a car and pretend to have him each morning at work at 7:00 if he/she lives in the countryside and 20 miles away from the working place, to say the least). It kills me to see people who take care about little things like how to make ethernet less power-consuming , stupid demonstrations like turning of the Tour Eiffel for five (5) minutes , while what we need is a revolution in consciousness , like Chirac said, dont know whether on dope or not. What we are doing today is cleaning the ashtrays on a ship that's about to wreck. I advocate a long consumers' strike, starting from the tech goods. THIS is something effective: imagine millions of motivated consumers that refuse to throw the old one and buy a _new_ car, household appliance, computer for A WHOLE YEAR or INDEFINITELY. And along with this trying to save each bit of power of any form starting from automotive gas . Since it seems it is so important to increase production and consume , well, let us try to show that we dont want to play this game any longer. _They_ say someone should do something about pollution but all _they_ plan is selling us more cars, goods and gas than ever. Dont ask me who are _they_, you already know. It is for instance those governments which claim vague new environmental politics but help the car and oil companies in expanding their markets, to say one (and who sell us cigarettes and tell us it's safer to quit, too). THIS is an effective way to protest AND do something real. The past year during the electoral campaign we've made a video on this topic for the schools here. It wasnt a big success. Oh, and by the way you'll find more money left in your pocket. Why dont we organize and start ? how many of us are here and willing to do our thing instead to keep on barfing on our god damned keyboards ? This includes proselytism too, of course. OR am I just plain a pathetical misguided daydreamer ?
No, there aren't. Where did you get that idea from? There is an overwhelming consensus among climate scientists around the world that global warming is being forced by human activity. There is an overwhelming body of literature demonstrating this. There are a couple of (very loud) dissenting voices. But the scientific case is pretty much settled. Look it up.
Ya, There was also a Overwhelming Consenses about Global Cooling back in the 70's. Turned out they were wrong. Yes the world is warming, but the world is also going to cool! So stay in your little fantasy world, I don't care.
I take it you never took an earth science/astronomy class in your life. Heres the fact.. the Earth naturally goes through warming and cooling cycles (hence the ice ages and crap). If humans are doing anything they are only hastening the natural speed of the global warming.
good for you--you learned a little tid bit of science suggesting that the earth naturally cycles every several tens of thousands of years. yes, we, and all scientists around the world understand this fact. however, if you were really smart, then you'd realize that UNNATURALLY fast augmentation of the earth's climate systems and ocean currents can be absolutely devastating to plants, animals, and people. we're already seeing stable earth patterns shift, seemingly overnight, and the culprit is undoubtedly destructive human behavior on a massive, worldwide level. it's fine if you want to be ignorant and selfish, but at least don't advertise it.... besides, nobody is asking you to give up your ample, american lifestyle; why should it harm you so bad that some people actually care about the future of this planet?
I agree with you, and I am posting this on a custom built computer from 1999, that I refuse to take to the landfill, when it can do everything I need it to at the moment. I am driving a truck from 1986 only when needed. My truck is on it's last legs, but I am torn as what to replace it with. Will the new vehicles last as long? I am not a real fan of the global warming theory. The people that are plugging it bother me, they are the same ones that have profitted from causing hysteria about other issues. I believe in using and reusing everything until it is no longer reasonable to expect any further effective use from it.
Well no shit Shurlock.. what are you some kind of idiot? Holy fuck. And did you stop to think that the Earth's weakening magnetic feild might also have something to play into that? And if you didn't hear about that I'll tell you why its weakening so you don't come up with ghey theory about it and jam it down someones throat. Its weakening because the magnetic feild is slowly revearsing, and eventually Magnetic North will in turn be in the South.
if you dont believe that adding CO2 to the atmosphere heats it up, then you're wrong. have you seen the effects (which are occurring now) of the increased global temperatures on different areas of the world? even if nature itself is the main cause of the rise, which most scientists say it isn't, people should help keep the earth cool anyway. and lets think about it, whose more likely to be right, lots of scientist, or mr average sitting at home on his computer? if im wrong, then fair enough. but if people who deny it are wrong, we're all in trouble. not worth the risk is it.
