This may be a pretty far-fetched possibility, but lately I've been examining music by prominent 60's rock groups, particularly the Beatles. If you listen to certain Beatles albums, you'll notice (especially when stoned) that there are very low voices underneath the melody which aren't discernable. You know that someone is talking, but you can't understand what it is they are saying. I've been entertaining the possibility of subliminal messages in such music, which then makes me question the entire music industry. I wouldn't put it past producers to incorporate messages that fuck with our heads. I know this sounds nuts, and I'm not undermining the ingeniousness of the Beatles. I am a big fan. I am just speculating. Anyway, any thoughts? p.s- if you want to know exactly what I'm talking about, light up a nice joint and listen to Yellow Submarine.
Ever seen the movie of "Josie and the Pussycats", deals with that exact subject of putting subliminal messages in music, although in a more comic then serious way. If you can hear it, then it not really subliminal. I know there's a late-60's Beach Boys song that has, what sound like porn sound effects (moans and groans, etc) mixed way in the back of one of there songs.
Subliminal messages and backmasking techniques aren't completely improbable (check out http://jeffmilner.com/backmasking.htm to listen to a few samples of audio, such as Stairway To Heaven, being played in reverse to reveal hidden messages). In theory, certain parts of your brain are processing more than what you can normally perceive, which leaves a lot of open room for these techniques to be executed correctly, and practically unnoticed. Like you stated, I wouldn't put it past the music industry to throw in a few subliminal phrases as a marketing scheme of some sort - but in reality, who knows? Play some shit in reverse and see. Either way, it's a pretty interesting topic.
There's so many songs which mask subliminal messages backwards, it's quite creepy actually. I honestly don't know whether they are coincidence or put in deliberately, though it does seem kind of impossible for it all to be coincidence. http://www.backmaskonline.com/mp3.html Here's a collection of songs forwards and backwards, you can have a hear at some of the subliminal messages if you want or haven't already. =3
These days subliminal messaging is much more upfront. For example, skim over these Fall out boy lyrics and see if you can find the secret message Dance, Dance We're falling apart to half time Dance, Dance, Smoke Reds And these are the lives you'd love to lead Dance, this is the way they'd love If they knew how misery loved me You always fold just before you've found out (that I smoke Marlboro Reds) Drink up its last call Last resort But only the first mistake and I... Smoke Marlboro Reds
Subliminal messaging is real man ive listened to some songs backwards that talk about the devil and stuff if freaks me out im already paranoid any ways i dont need that to freak me out even more. peace and love im out
Stairway to Heaven, by Led Zeppelin, contains multiple satanic messages when played backwards. I heard it but didn't believe it at first. I opened up a sound recorder on my computer and sang a part of the song, then played it backwards and it really did say satanic messages. There's no way this could be done on accident.
