I'm thinking of dropping my dial-up and switching to Verizon DSL. Comcast is too expensive for my needs.
I do have the option of a local DSL for about the same cost as Verizon.

Any comments, good or bad, on Verizon?

I don't know about the US providers but I guess you should compare bandwidth and pricing to get an indication.....
I tried to google it but no luck yet....

On behalf of all my friends that work at a Verizon DSL tech support center may I offer you a few words if you pick up this service.

Nobody will come to your house on a weekend - no matter what lies or tricks you try.

Please enter all the info into the automated thing first. It saves the agents sometime and gives them a general idea about what they may be facing with a call.

Call from an alternate phone. Especially if your phone shares a jack with your DSL. This will prevent you from losing the call because you gotta unplug shit from your jacks.

Be at the computer when you phone. Not while laying down in bed. Not while having your morning dump. They also don't want to hear your you beating your kids.

Be patient. The tech guys gotta go through the steps. While they maybe obvious to you, or you've tried them before - just do it. (The worst customers are those that know 'just enough' and often miss something because they 'knew it all' )

Some problems are trickier than others and may require investigation and consultation. If you hear your agent go dead for mute for a while, they are consulting. Don't be impatient - 'cause you didn't know the answer either.

Feel free to ask for a supervisor. You're agent will thank you if you're an asshole because they will no longer be obliged to listen to your crap, it's now the super's problem. Just be forewarned that asking for a supervisior will NOT make anything happen any faster - infact you'll have to wait longer. Chances are, if you calm down and listen, your agent can help you.
