I'm in West Chester. I'm further up north where I'm practically Exton then West Chester. I'm glad that I don't live near the college though.. drunk people all over the place. But in all, I enjoy Pa but I like to go west toward Pittsburgh.. beautiful scenery.

there isn't much I can find wrong with Pennsylvania other than the roads and they've misnamed a circus of idiots as the department of transportation.

there's a lot of senior citizens who i think are too brainwashed to throw some of these idiots out of office in this state and they cause a lot of accidents driving too slowly but they keep things relatively nice looking too.

the scenery here is decent, huge hills from the appalachains are referred to as mountains here, but I don't think we have many elevations more than 2500 ft above sea level, but the terrain is full of color and wildlife, there's plenty of hiking to do here.

there's also plenty of redneck towns where everyone sleeps with their cousins, so that equals a lot of rural and undeveloped land.

pennsylvania is home to the philly blunt, cheesesteak, the liberty bell, jefferson, philadelphia man, it's a great city if you don't mind cities. plenty of arts and other things to do there.

we can't forget about pittsburgh either, and the steelers, and let's not forget Mario Lemieux and the Penguins. The pirates have even seen their years, but they got a kick ass park now if you're into sports.

Old trains, amish who know how to work together to farm and build and not trash the earth, if there were more of them there'd be even less developments, they can live in my state anyday.

We're 4 hours from Massachussets, connecticut, vermont, new york city, virginia, ohio and west virginia are close, philly, nyc, d.c., pittsburgh, they're all close, the beach is only 3 hours away.

I think I'll always maintain a home base here, right now I'm enjoying over 100 acres with a mile of creek frontage I can fish in and hunt if I were into it. I ride dirtbikes and go 4 wheeling, camping, hiking and do a lot of stargazing instead. I'm also working on self sufficiency and alternative energies at the moment.

So I can't think about too many things that aren't to like about this state. I think most places are what you make of them though, and generally if you want to say something sucks, I would have to assume that you are in control of your destiny and life is what you make of it, no matter where you are at the time. Just ask someone who's been in jail, what sucks more, jail or the top of a mountain. They'll tell you jail, but most of them could also tell you they made the best of it to get through it. Think about our troops in Iraq right now. Now that sucks. I wish them the best and I would think twice about saying any of our states here in the homeland suck when you think about what our troops are facing over there.

Maturity comes with age, so does wisdom. Sometimes you have to put yourself in other places to realize things could be a lot worse. Whatever the reason it was said PA sucks I may never know, but I would think it sucks more to be someone who looks at PA like that when we have people dying overseas.

The best thing about PA is, I can walk out my back door, go into the woods and kill something legally almost every day of the year.

Let's kill something together.A groundhog, maybe, and eat it. I'll gut it and clean it. I'll even provide free beer.

I'm in Easton, Pa...a literal stone's throw from Jersey across the river. I've seen a pretty good number of states and so far I have to say I rather like this one...
Despite being unable to find many hip folks in my area. PA has a lot of us, but it's so damn big that we're still all spread out.

I'd have to agree with (for the most part) Pennsylvania is a bore. It might just be my personal experience, but I haven't found anyone like me here at all, and I have been to quite a few parts of Pennsylvania. To the person that said that it rains often and is cold here, I agree! I like rain, but not EVERY DAY. I see mostly the amish or country people around here, and that is definitely not my type of people, although I am nice to them and would be friends with them. Pennsylvania has some rude people, but it has some nice people too. People from Pittsburgh that I have met are mostly nice, but NEVER go to State College, Pennsylvania (around PSU)-nothing but snobby yuppies there! I, personally, want to live somewhere like California. I always have for all of my life. I can't wait until I graduate and have a chance to fullfill my dream! By the way, anyone in Pennsylvania (especially in the western area) that wants to meet and hang out some time, let me know! I am all up for meeting new people...peace!

Maybe it's because I moved here from Dallas, Texas but holy shit, I love PA already.
The outdoors are amazing, there are 2 state parks within about 15 miles of where I live, and there are trees here, big trees everywhere!! Forests, Hills!! Haha, I am so used to houses and buildings everywhere and store after store. This place is really blowing my mind already.

I agree with balko & lover/young_peace for the most part. I'm from CT originally; you want to talk about sucky people. They're next in line for capital of sucky bastards behind NY city "folk". That's why I moved to pa instead of some other place. Like hillbilly heaven VT or NH. Don't get me wrong! Very nice but not too bright in general. Same for pa. Not too Bright at all, but 10 times nicer than CT bastards. That's why it's hard to meet people here. You can meet them easy enough, but once you find out they are 30 and lived in the same town their whole lives; and still believe that spiders emerge from dust under your tv or,, your pile of used condoms under your bed... well you tend to end the befriending process! Hear what I'm screamin.

P.S. The condom thing was only for impact. If my pa wife gave me sex It might be true but my friends on the ends are the only action I get reg. Need to rely on work trips for the real deal. Don't worry, she knows! lol

There are Amish all over the state, even in north central PA where I am from. Just a greater concentration where you live.

PA is a little dull, I have lived other places, but no place felt like home and always came back. In fact always felt the need to be back...

Wow that is a pretty narrow point of view. How about open your mind and seeing what others have to offer before judging a whole group of people (in this case Pennsylvanians) because of your limited unpleasant encounters. You haven't met every person in the state, and I would gather you haven't even met 1% of them. Relax and take the time to get to know people.

I've been born and raised in rural PA and it does suck. I love the land around here but the culture is definitely lacking. I've traveled all over the country and lived in Oregon and I had to come back here because of personal reasons and ended up getting stuck. We went from living in a rural community in Oregon with shitloads of friends have potlucks/barbecues every other day and all sorts of great friends and overflowing in herb to coming back here and having no one to chill with, no herb, nothing much to do, every couple a months there might be a tame lil' bluegrass concert or something, but that's about it. Sorry to whine but I miss chill people and grocery stores in bum fuck nowhere that still offer organic foods! I miss my friends and being surrounded by miles and miles of national forest! We're getting the hell away from here as soon as possible.

Oh and the Amish rock. I wish they took over the whole state, seriously. So quitcherbitchin about em. They've got the right idea... community, simplicity, and hard work.... Minus the religious overtones and I'd love live with them.
