Ok, I'm about 3 months in and although I have big clumps that are mostly tight except for the roots, most of my knots/locks are kinda flat and wibbly wobbly?

    they are kinda

and really flat and they have some holey bits in them.

Dunno if that makes sense, but they are nearly like an S kinda pattern near the bottoms. So my question is, did I fuck up somewhere or is this normal?
Also will they fatten up and get rounded? The underneath is all like this, but the top is just all frizz. The whole lot seems to want to form into 1 whole big dread and I have to rip constantly.

Also what can I wrap individual bits in to stop them combining? I have no beads and my hair seems to "eat" wool or pipe cleaners if that makes sense?

Also I had to treat for lice last night, used an acv soak followed by dr bronners teatree soap which I left sit for 10 mins. The itching has stopped, but I am feeling kinda frustrated.

I just wanna know if what I described is normal. Someone put a smile on my face.. pretty please. :D

Well, I'm 2 months into it and the knots that I do have are just that. Knots. They do not resemble dreads by any means. I'm thinkin' it's normal and only time will bring them to full dreads.

Keep up the patience tf :)

    Ooo, maybe post a pic?

Also, I've found that ripping up from the bottom is useless in keeping them separated. the little separating I've done, I've done it from the top down.

Yeah, just feel around with your finger tips where a nice place to part them would be, then poke your fingers through then wiggle the hairs apart. I twist the knots just a bit after getting them apart, like just one little twist on my way out.

hmm the shape I'd say is totaly normal, no wories just give it time. All mine were like that and for the past few weeks have been shaping up. I've ony got a few falt dreads, they're on the back of my head and they're only flat bcz I sleep on them. Where are your flat ones?

Most of mine are kinda flatish, but that might have something to do with the fact that I toss and turn a lot in my sleep and probably sleep on all of them at one time or another.

with naturals, any form they take is right, that is the point. I have plenty of flat misshapen weird dreads. some with holes.

grrr... I just replied to this threat and it didn't post... I'll try again

My hair is knotting up well now, except for the fact that I am still fighting lice. I just used a "natural" headlice product and my hair is matted to shit.... lots of ripping for me tomorrow.

I hope so too, one of my boys brought them back from camp :( They are all lice free now, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting rid of them.

hey toothfairy~~I've had lice twice since i got my dreads. I was on the road and broke so the whole natural treatment was kinda ixnay for me. I did always keep my hair soaked in tea tree but that didn't keep em away. Anyways a cheap, very nasty treatment (but it works!) is to use the higher percentage rubbing alcohol if you can find it. It just about kills you but it works super quick~~ I just soaked my dreads in it (used about 2 bottles) and wrapped em up in a plastic grocery bag for a couple hours. Then for added measure I washed em in dog shampoo. And rinsed em super good. I was super infested and my bugs were gone presto. I know its a pretty harsh treatment, but at least its something you should only have to do once and you get instant results, it kills all the eggs too~~ but you'll be pullin off dry dead eggs for a while afterwards. Make sure you stay away from all open flames, I know someone who did this to his dreads and proceeded to light up a cigarette not thinking and caught himself on fire/almost died. And make sure you're doing it somewhere ventilated, if the weather permits do it outside.

So.. I think my lice are gone, a few more daily acv treatments to be sure, but my hair has really shrunk..... before dreads it was down to my bra strap at least, now it's like 2-3 inches long.. it seems to have kinda just dragged the hair up and in. I'm happy with my little baby dreads, although some are kinda flat or thin, but I never expected to lose so much length.
