Jimmy really likes to eat canned veggies. I put them in a cupboard down low and he will bring me the kind he wants to eat. I open a can of peas and he munches them all day. (Amongst other things.) Well he started getting a rash after he ate the goya mixed vegetables and then anything goya at all. I checked the label and they use a preservative, disodium EDTA. Well that freaked me out and now I only buy canned veg with veg and water. No salt sugar or preservatives. He was drinking soy milk with his meals but he never had problems with soy at all so i just assumed it was the EDTA. Today we ate at a chinese buffet for lunch. He ate quite a bit of tofu and immedietely afterwards got a prickly rash all over. He doesn't seem bothered by it but he's very mellow and it takes alot for him to complain. Could he have developed a soy allergy? I realize an elimination diet is the only way to find out. If he DOES have a soy allergy, will he get over it? This is really upsetting because we are vegan and soy does have a fairly prominent place in our diet. We don't eat it EVERY day, but it does widen our gastronomic (I like that word!) horizons and it would stink for him to have to avoid it for the rest of his life.
More likely a reaction to the seasonings in the Chinese food. I get a rash if I eat anything with MSG.
Don't know about the alergies, but it is usually not a good idea to give young children very much soy. Reasearch it. Here is something quick that I just pulled up. http://www.drlam.com/opinion/soy_thyroid.cfm
Yeah, they recently found out a compound in soy mimics estrogen. Miso and tempeh are ok, since their not processed the same way, or something. Try almond milk!! It's soooo good!!
