http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6363303.stm This is the third gun-crime death in 12 days. Why is this happening? What can be done to combat such violence and how can we stop youths (as well as others) from getting hold of guns? Apparently armed police are planning to tackle gun murders etc, however prevention is always better than a cure. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6363713.stm What are your thoughts on these tragedies?
sadly its getting more and more like america ........seems like people dont value other peoples lives anymore ........sad
what I think should be found out if these were related incidents or indicative of gang involvement? or was it just some kid that got a gun somehow and accidentally shot someone? you guys would have a LONG way to go to end up like America. I don't think 3 shootings in 12 days would be indicative of being like America. Now if you had 3+ a day for 12 days ... then maybe. Tis not something to strive for though. I still love the fact that you can walk around or have your windows open and not constatly hear gunshots going off. it is evident though by the knife crimes and muggings that people don't value others lives though ... you don't need a gun to prove that.
Well, I am only 14 so i am realy ignorant of what goes on in the uk other than we have the highest povoty rate in the developed world... I think blair cares too much for his relations with america than for his own people or the planet....Or anything else.... Hope we find a better alternative in the next etection.
i've lived in some really truly shitty areas in the usa in my life, and never once have i know anyone to get shot. i've never seen a gun pulled on anyone in my entire life, even living in lala land. grants, nm? home of a penitentiary? nope. i lived in gang banger land, never once saw a gun or knew of a gun crime. the usa is a massively varied place, you know.
i'm assuming, from the xenophobia happening here, that freewind didn't consider the usa a part of the developed world.
Just because you've never seen it doesn't meant it doesn't happen though. I'm originally from a city that's in the top 3 as far as crime goes (Dallas, currently number 1), and I've never seen a gun pulled on anyone either. But it does happen, because I read about it in the paper/on the internet/see it on the news. But it happened. Over time, I became insensitive to it because it was an almost daily happening. The biggest difference here is that guns are a part of US culture, but they are not a part of UK culture. They are illegal here, three gun deaths of teenage boys in one particular area is a BIG deal. If it were stabbings it'd probably not be as big of a deal. Not saying that's right; just saying... And as for the US not being part of the developed world, well, most European countries would have rebuilt New Orleans by now, so it's not totally unjustified. But you're right; it totally depends on where in the US you are. Unfortunately, a lot more is bad than good.
Aye, to some extent we are even more brutal over here because we don't have guns to hand. We actually have to take that power shift to end somebody's life. Strangulation, Stabbing etc...all require close contact. I have to agree with Trombone though, this is a big deal as it's not our culture. This country is supposed to be gun-free when clearly it isn't. You just have to look at the problems there's been in Nottingham.
i don't believe more is bad than good, either. as for new orleans, you have the most corrupt city in one of the most corrupt states in the nation getting funding and more assistance than they can steal. you can't put ALL of that on the rest of the USA. different states are like different countries, they all have their unique flavor and troubles.
The first sentence really comes down to taste I suppose. And I take that back; you are right about Louisiana and the different levels of corruption. And it's no coincidence that the crime levels of Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio have gone up dramatically since the transplantation; New Orleans was always filled with crime. Not even gone two years and I forget how big the US is...
yeah, it's insanity there. anywhere you get a massive collection of people all trying to use the same finite resources you're gonna have mass amounts of crime. but honestly, i've been asked again and again by people coming to the states what it's like to have a gun pulled on me and how i deal with it. it's never happened. the odds of you stepping off the plane and having some pull a gun on you is extremely remote. you can go your whole life and never once see a real gun.
I was counting america actualy...... It's what it said in the gardian..... ( mum made me read the article) atriot:
Oh no, I do understand that mentality. It's part of the same mentality that leads people who find out I'm from Dallas to ask me how the Ewings are. And they're dead serious. Or they ask me how I could vote for George W...without actually asking me if I did...I've also gotten several people to fall for the fact that they have horse stables at the airports...it comes down to cultural differences and we're all bound to say something stupid or at least naive...
yeah. i don't mind misinformation and naivete when it's not hinged with the "and THAT'S why i hate you" nonsense. i can joke with the best of them, but i can tell when it's serious, too.
shite.........shit...........poo.......pants ohhhhhhhhhhhhoooohhhhhhhh.......... funny how yanks speak but your not american are yer? .......you might think you are but your not really ( unless your native )...... :indian_ch your like english and spanish ( row row row a boat )........lets go steal lands and fuck em up ............ yer know what man our spirit lives on and one day we will be back were we belong ...............scouse cherokee .............peace man
