I'm thinking of trading off my new 2G nano for a friend's 1G...

The basic reasons for this are that I really prefer the modding availability (software.) and I can also buy an anodized aluminum case to make it look like a 2G if I want to.

Think it's a good idea? What do you think are some pros and cons?

    Yes, they do get better...

But, what I really want is the availability to customize my interface, change the background picture, play videos, etc. and I can't do that on my NEW nano because of the encryption software and the unknown components. Many expert Ipod crackers are giving up with decrypting the code, or have never bothered attempting it.

That's why I want to get the 1st Gen Nano instead.

i dont think its worth it, main reason is the battery life.

i love my 2nd generation, up to 24 hours playback

Yeah but many podmodders are saying that they might never crack the encryption...

I think thats hard to believe because people can easily break into the US Military Site easily or NASA or anything like that so a damn Ipod shouldnt be THAT hard.
