That's the thing. That's why I don't advise anyone to NOT pay their taxes. I am simply saying there is no law that requires it. If anyone is interested in finding out more about this, there is a great documentary video out there which gets into this, called 'America: Freedom to Fascism.' You can watch it here on Google video.... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4312730277175242198&q=America%3A+Freedom+to+Fascism&hl=en I recommend every American watch this.
I always get a little back. I don't really understand tax code at all, but I switch jobs every couple months... I'm really a jack of all trades. I'm not hard to work with really. I just have add or somethin'.
The thing is I don't pay them. The government takes them before I knew I had the money. That's more of a 'jack' then a 'tax'.
Haha. Exactly what I was thinking... unless you work under the table, your taxes are gonna be taken out and there isn't much you can do about it.
Where you talking about me here, I wasn't saying I should get something. I was just basically saying why I don't get anything back as a refund because I don't pay anything in and that too me is fare, I get my disabilitie and Im happy. I don't need anything else and im not perfectlly healthy either, im disabled and thats all im going to say on this about me. My parents are a different story, my father works hard and deserves more back than what he is getting.
A famous 19th Century economist likened the taxman to a highwayman (mugger), but he prefered the mugger, because at least he goes away and doesn't mug year after year for the rest of your life.
Come to think of it, about 5 months ago my ex's pot and addy dealer tithed like 20% of his profits. I didn't believe him obviously, but I saw him doing it more then once. He was a really good person. He kinda disapperaed. Hope he didn't get arrested.
I don't like people who abuse the system for it either, I know before I got mine I had to go through testing from doctors and psychologist and i qualify fairly under the government rules. I don't like abusers of the programs. Now back on to tax break topic as I see it has gotten off some.
I wasn't thinking that lucky, Im just speaking in general here on how i feel and to agree with what you said.
I would certainly be more comfortable in a society that offered health benifits and services to too many people including some bums, then a system that denied help to people who need it. And that's pretty much the choice you're faced with. A lot of the feelings people have about social welfare are brought about by the way they were raised, or personal feelings, or a few they've met, not on actual data. Theres no way to find a perfect middle ground, that's why I'd say it's better to air (how do you spell that?) on the side of supproting a few bums.
*edited partially* I just wish people were fair and not lazy. If someone reallllly needs help, by all means, get it. But if you dont- stop being lazy and work like everyone else.
Well you know, experience can play into that as well. And abusing friends or charities/services intended to help the many people who need it, just because you don't want to miss your soap operas is extremly sleasy. But in this part of the country, I see a lot of people who need help that are denied a lot of help. Especially younger people, and legal migrants. It's distatefull seeing someone who works 50-60 hour weeks for minimum wage be denied food stamps when they have two kids. But I understand having a recent experience playing into your feelings on the subject. All I'd say is the part of your brain that invokes feelings, isn't always the best part to make broad policy descions who apply to everyone. I'm sure you know that though. You're a bright one.
*edited because it was read by the person i wrote it to and there is no need for it to be up here anymore* But yes... I have also experienced people that do work forty or more hours a week and can't make ends meet. I find it really sad. This is kinda a different topic but I heard minimum wage will finally be going up nationwide to seven dollars and something. Still too little but I'm happy to hear it. And yeah.. there is a large group of people who make too much to get government assistance but not enough to possibily make ends meet. In fact, I used to be one of those people and it SUCKED! And no... just because of my experiences with a certain type of person, I wouldn't want to change any policies. I agree with you there.
See, I was right. Smart. And I've had my run in with bums too. I just try not to let it ruin my perspective. The only woman with children I've ever dated was beautiful and bright. She worked at 7-11 with me, only a hair above minimum wage. She had no help from her family, and she refused anything she viewed as charity, because she felt other people could use it more. She was trying to get into college. She was only twenty three had two kids, and although she had average credit, about everywhere she turned for tuition assistance turned her down because she could not get a co-signer who was mildly affluent. She saved up enough on the side to start putting herself through community college. When she finishes, she'll be able to get some sort of financial assistance. Creditors work under the assumption that everyone has bright and supporive parents who would co-sign. It's tough seeing such a smart girl work so hard to support her children and make a better life for herself. Only a few freinds, and no family. She's doing it, which is very admirable, but if there were more ways for smart people to get higher educations without scrapping by, it would be amazing. I also think parents who are kind of bums still deserve to have their children to have some support. A person will be handicapped to some degree by their soroundings, but that can be mitigated if their is some kind of support network. As for adults, it can be hard to distinguish who needs help anyway. 100 years ago a person with schizoid symptoms could be just put in a labor camp somewhere. Now their are many who flurish. I don't know entirely what I'm getting at. You can't help everyone, but I feel obligated to try, and for the system to try.
One thing I learned or at least to my experience it was true, that once I reached the age of 24 it was much easier for me to go to college. Before then, even though I had been on my own since the day I was eighteen with no financial support from any parent... for school or anything else I was still considered a dependant student and it was really difficult.
We don't really have any plans for our tax return money, probably just put it in the savings, possibly do some more work on our house to get it ready to sell. My husband was talking about replacing all of our downstairs windows. We did the upstairs windows back in September I believe. We've got a lot of windows in our house, which is cool, because as long as there's daylight, I never have to turn a light on because of all the natural light that comes in.
there are things i would WANT to pay taxes for if i were making any money to pay them. infrastructure and welfare especialy, which there are no other reasons to have any government of any kind then, and which no amount of "degregulated" bussiness or industry can be counted upon to provide. military expenditures and gratuitous wars, not to mention attacks on the way of life i'd rather be living, by idiological fanatacisms of any sort, are of course, NOT among them. =^^= .../\...
