biscuits are sweet. dark star orchestra is a fantastic dead cover band. sound tribe sector nine is pretty sweet as well. also, if you are into bluegrass, cornmeal is the shit!
Phish is good. Trey Anastasio is amazing to watch as well as to listen to. (Live in Brooklyn is the best concert to watch)
i love that brooklyn show, a big fuck you to all the post-hiatus haters....the FREE is unbelievable!!!! the Moma has one of my all time favorite jams in it.....just a brilliant show....
YMSB, TEA LEAF & UMPH's will def. cure your jam cravings. You might want to check out Particle, Galactic, & Deep Bannana Blackout as well : )
Damn right, phish is good but i wouldn't compare them to the dead, but thats my opinion. i love the dead
uhhhh..look at the name of the forum (which I've lobbied for "Jam Bands" repeatedly). Of course they are worlds apart, but you know as well as I do that the fact of the traveling circus and the uninventive music journos who were so ahistorical that they probably think the Beach Boys created the surf sound...or the Ramones.... kept using the only similar PHENOMENON (not sound), the Dead & Deadheads to explain Phish.
umphrey's mcgee. the grateful dead. phish. tea leaf green. string cheese incident. disco buscuits. north mississippi allstars. yonder mountain string band. allmann brothers band.
*The Motet (funky, afrobeat, jazz, jam, rock, very fucking awesome, one of my faves) *Umhpreys McGee (Jam Band, good for newcomers to the jam scene) *RAQ (one of the best jam bands i think lol, they are like a prog rock jam band...similar to phish at times) *Lotus (electronic, jam, rock) *Revolutionary Side Effects (Jam Band, very unheard of, check em out if you like Umhpreys McGee) *John Scofield (experimental, jazz, jam, rock) *Robert Walter's 20th Congress (funky, soul, jazzy, jam band, one of MY faves) *The Everyone Orchestra (one of my new faves, they play everything) *Garaj Mahal (another jam band. bit more jazzy. Totally awesome, cant believe not many have mentioned them yet) *Galactic (FUNKY, jam, rock, real sick. ANYbody would love them and if not then check the chest area for a battery where their heart is suppose to be) *New Mastersounds (Funk, Jazz, Jam, really really good band here.) I thought i would try for the ones other named Phish, Dead, or Moe. Also if you like any of those check out *The Rhythm Devils (Steve Kimock on guitar, Mickey Hart of grateful dead on drums, Mike Gordon of Phish on bass, and a female singer from somewhere else that i cant remember. You would like them if you like Grateful Dead, they do a lot of Dead covers.) ENJOI
wow!! you know Revolutionary Side-Effects???? they are friends of mine and i am so glad to see them getting some recognition!
They seem to be friends with everyone lol. I met a few people at Wakarusa earlier in June who were friends with them also. I saw them jam with Charlie Hitchcock which was really cool. They are definitely worth a listen and i think they will get a lot better in a few years if they keep it up. The Bass player is such a bad ass
i am so jealous of you seeing them with Charlie Hitchcock!!! when i heard they got to do that i was so excited!! i thought you probably had seen them at Waka...that was their first real performance for a national crowd. i was so stoked they got a set at that fest....i first saw them a couple years back at a show in LA and it was me and my friend at the show, litterally we were the only two...and it was at an awesome venue called the Skirball; it was a museum and they were playing in the court yard by a koi fish pond...they had a different bass player then, good player, but he was no Anthony....but they ended up busting out a Bathtub Gin that night for us becuase we had talked before the show and discussed inspirsations.....i was blown away when i heard it.....3 guys, no piano, and it was one of the greatest gins ever....i will find that show and post that for you.....i think you will like that whole show....earlier RSE was a little different, because they never had such a gifted bass player.....the others used to just fill a pocket for mike and josh to jam in....some great shit came out of it.....alot of jams that you won't really hear them play anymore...but thats the good thing about show archives!!
Yeah i have seen Charlie sit in with a few people before (Pnuma Trio, Particle ofcourse, North Mississippi, P-Groove, Galactic and also On the One which was really dope. But he was definitely ragin it with these dudes, it was like a battle between Charlie and the RSE guitar player (dont know his name....josh maybe? But those two were just like.....fuck you its my show lol. he (josh) sent me a message on myspace because before the fest --which is when i do my homework and check out all the bands on the lineup ive never heard---i was givin them some props and told people to check em out....hes a cool dude!). Cant wait to see them come back in the midwest next time! Lots of good new music to see at every fest, but Wak had so many good bands this year. That show does sound pretty special, with the fish tank and all haha
the guitar player is Mike, josh rocks the drums....i can't wait to see them on the 27th!! the party is usually good after...unless they have work....wait, i take that back....
