THANK YOU! i f***ing hate it here! i'm outa here when asap, the suberbs suck, everyone is the same... and no one cares, all the smart free-thinkers left
Anytime my friend. It's true, everyone really is just out for money and status. It's sickening. Are you a nassau or a suffolk kid? Peacee
Got that right! It's why I moved off Long Island two years ago and came to Woodstock. I got sick of being surrounded by Guys who wanted to Grow up Gotti and chicks who thought they were living sex in the city. It seemed like the only important things in life there were what car you drove and what ring tone you had on your cell. My last home on LI was Sayville but I lived all over it. Even out in Southold. Huntington Village was kool though. I have to be honest and do miss Greek food and the pizza though. If you folks are ever coming up to Woodstock give a shout. We have a growing community of former folks from long Island.
ahahah, it's true, it's very true. I conside upstate new york as a possibility of where i'll end up up. either that or vermont, it's all good.
Ive always wanted to go to NYC(I know thats not part of Long Island), but I Have a friend that lives in Nassau. I'm from England and I wanna move out eventually, lol.
NYC's cooler than L.I. def. I'm actually going to be stuck in london for a good month this summer so I'll get to finally see what it's like, haha. I live in Nassau too, what town?
I'm not sure actually, I'll have to ask next time. I'm 18 now but figured if I go by myself I'll end up getting lost because that place is huge, lol. I can't find anyone willing to go with me at the mo so I'll probably just end up going by myself in the future, lol. Oh and it'd be quite pricey, haha.
Pricey it is, so's LI for that matter. On the other hand, the city's a nice one and probably worth it to visit. I'll give you a tour, no worries, aaha peaace
LI's not so bad. I'm in western Nassau, and what I like about it is: it's 20 minutes from everything: -NYC (best city in the world), -the beach (ok not the best beach, but the sound and salty smell of the ocean is wonderful) -the country (upstate NY rocks!) I'm an easy 20 minute train ride from the city, which is brilliant. I love the city, but on LI we have TREES and LARGE PLOTS OF GREEN GRASS! You've got to admit, some places on LI have great trees! and there are lots of different kinds of people, too. Idiots aplenty, granted, but good people, too. Like us!
I love Fire Island. I definitely meet cool people there, but then again they are all from New York City! LMAO!
True, true. It does have some perks. I'm in on the north shore in nassau, though, right next to a giant landfill =( but, where I horseback ride, it is pretty gorgeous.
illstylee, Good people are all over the Island, you haven't found them yet. Within your particular sphere of influence at 16 it is hard to see outside your realm of experience. Once you and your friends have a car and mobility to traverse LI you will meet all the good folks. If you follow up some of the places mentioned below you will run into the good folk. Towns to seek out: Montauk - touristy but, at night on the beaches people gather to play and sing by campfires and to beckon the stars and bask in the moonlight Cutchogue Mattituck cold Spring Harbor Freeport (Nautical Mile) Oyster Bay Babylon Sayville Huntington East Northport Port Jefferson Station And a whole heck more dotting both north and south shore from the Nassau/Suffolk county line Most towns out east have farmstands and festivals with live music, local artisans and good foods There are arboretums to run and play through acres of meadow, woods and fields. Planting Fields Arboretum Old Westbury Gardens Clark Gardens Bailey Cutting Arboretum Beautiful parks Caumsett Park Sunkem Meadow Park Jones Beach Belmont Park (not the racetrack) Fire Island Shelter Island They both have totally different vibes and are both great hangouts for daytrippers. Marinas and fishing piers abound for the water enthusiasts of all ages. Most of the little private beaches from exit 62 out east on the Long Island Expressway usually let you in free on weekdays, but close at dusk. Riverhead is revitalised with museums and Aquarium and lots of bistros and cafes plus some nice restaurants. The wine country is amazing and if you're 21 the tours of the different wineries are great fun. Some people think going out on your own is better, but then you have to have a designated driver, lol. We have world ranked golf courses and anything in between from beginner on up, two of the best are Montauk Downs and Bethpage Black...Tiger won there in the 90's. Long Island has much to offer, and finding the good people will be easier if you follow some of my leads. Any more information can be found at Newday.com online, they have a funbook to access most of the places mentioned. And news12 local channel 12, spotlights a town every night to check out. There are hidden jewels everywhere. Most of the daytrips will only cost the price of admission and parking, but there's plenty of freebies especially during the week. God this all sounds like tourist propaganda. lol. 8I
well, at least you are on the west end of the island, i grew up on the eastern tip of the north fork, i used to drive to the ronkoma train station, take the train into manhattan, get a room at the YMCA, which at that time there was one on 34th st right near the penn station. Back then the room was about $35 a night, i mean this is a small dorm type room where the public bathroom is down the hall. I would go to wash sq. park, score weed, get stoned, go to the theaters where they showed indy films, have ethnic dinner in some small take out place, sometimes go to a concert. Other times friends came along, we would chip in & get $100 room at the Penta Hotel across from the Garden, go see a show, was awsome times. Also you have to go to the Village, Bleeker St, St marks Pl. ( eat at "DOJO's ), have a beer at Mcsourlies on 7th st around the block, ( 300 year old bar & smells that way ), between 2nd & 3rd. Lots of kidz around that area, alot of culture.
I have lived on all ends of the island (including NYC, and Brooklyn and Queens); I hated Long Island growing up; It is a very accurate statement wanting to grow up Gotti; Especially when my family wanted that image too ; Now it is getting so overcrowded and overbuilt the congestion is stagnant almost all year round. vbmenu_register("postmenu_3182130", true); But 8eyedspy stated many positive aspects of the island;
im so glad thiers people on here that feel the same way about the place i live.. im so sick of this place. everyone on this island have huge egos and are so careless..it makes me sick waking down the halls of nassau community college ..hearing the conversations people have..its sad really.
About four weeks ago my husband, our lizard and myself piled into a u-haul and came to Suffolk county, right outside Riverhead, north fork. So far, I love it, but after 26 years in Detroit I might like anywhere there's no one shooting at my car. It's just beautiful out here, and to anyone who's gotten a little jaded by living here their whole life, I'd like to invite you to sit in the back seat while I drive around squealling "Ooh! Look at THAT!" at every swan, pheasant, or neat view I happen across. if anyone has any favorite local bands, or knows of a great open mic night, or a poetry reading, please give me a heads up. I don't know anyone here that wasn't riding in the moving truck.
