So, although I think taking away the young hippie forums is an inneffective incentive (I don't think anyone here really cares anyway...), it has partially caused me to think about something... What do you think it would take to get attention about cuases nowadays? War, the enviroment, unfair trade, what have you. Obviously in the 60's a few thousand people organizing was enough to get attention. However, nowadays this seems ineffective. It just doesn't make the news anymore. So what do you think it will take to get the attention? I have been thinking a lot lately about guerilla tactics. I mean, those Aqua Teen Hunger Force guys got a lot of attention in Bean Town! Come on, let's brainstorm!
What does it take to get someone's attention? Hope. The situation feels hopeless. Most of my friends and I feel like we can only do so much, like we can't change the situation. Politicians don't listen to those who elected them once they get into power. While every voice helps, it's pretty infinitesimal steps of help at this point. The world/situation feels overwhelmingly bad. And I don't even live in the states.
violent protests would probably work better than anything. molotov cocktails, kidnappings, hostage-taking, bombs.... even if a suicide bomber in the middle east kills only himself we still hear about every single one that does so. could you imagine what the coverage would be like if that were to happen in america. oh hold on, i think the fbi is a-knockin' at my door...
There is a form of protest where a person lights themself on fire to draw attention to their cause... ... ... ... ... They die, by the way.
I think gurilla(sp) theater and violantish demonstrations. I don't think you should go and just start attacking people but mabey things like graffiti turning the car of a poilitican over stuff like that trhowing a brick threw the capitals window or something like that. But I don't think you can start killing people.
anything short of a very violent revolution is probably not going to succeed. unless... oh wait, are all the cindy sheehan-type protests changing anything...? no, wait, that was just my imagination.
Also... was assassinated. Along with most other people who cared. Sadly. Sometimes you have to die for people to care more.
I believe that one should fight fire with fire, war with war. Killing, however, is not the answer. Look up the Weather Underground on google or something. I'm actually looking to start another revolution, and could use support in any way possible, violent or non-violent. If you're interested, e-mail me at new_underground002@yahoo.com, and we'll talk. Never submit to oppression. Fight fire with fire, war with war. Rebel using any means available. Revolution is our past, revolution is our future. Take part, and let it be now.
The weathermen were pretty fucking violent... like really, really violent. they wanted to bring the vietnam war home to awaken the mostly complacent public... obviously it would be hard to compare but i doubt people back thenwere any less complacent than we are now.
Intelligence. Lobbyists/Political Clout. Advertising. Money. None of these are unattainable. Note that none of these are some teenage anarchist's fantasy, either.
spooner, why would a teenage anarcist want any of that..i mean yeah thats how you could possibly achieve change...but none of that involves blowing shit up....
Honestly, how are the Weather Underground going to raise awareness now? Suicide bombings in big population centers... to bring the war back home? Honestly. Plus, all of the founding members are either too old to function, in prison, or just apathetic. This new "Weather Underground" is probably just a bunch of idiots who believe in such things as " I believe that one should fight fire with fire, war with war. " and have too much spare time on their hands.
