yep. Not as bad as some, assuming the original quality/ resolution is better (all you tubes look like they were filmed on cell phones- the dpi on line is too low) not a bad intro to the ecologic and health isses. quite graphic. I'd love to see sources for the stats. Lie, damn lies and statistics, ya know? Have to be clear when trying to change thinking.
and how about this lazy chickie? http://youtube.com/watch?v=uRyvdASuoDw loooove the witchy-poo hood....
It might just be me and this isnt ment to sound bitchy at all but whats the point of putting a video of an animal being tourchered in a veggy or even hippy forum? We all know what happens to the little animals, sorry but videos like this piss me off, especially when they dont have a warning about what they are about
A) She did provide a warning. And most sites will provide one anyway. B) Videos like these are essential if we want to get the word out about the meat-production process. Sadly, not everyone knows exactly how animals are treated and what kind of shit is fed to them (and eventually, to us). I know of a few people who have actually stopped eating meat after watching some gruesome videos. They said that they had no idea how bad it was. Sometimes visuals will help kick a meat-eater out of denial. That being said, I think it's also important to offer this material to those who have already converted to vegetarianism; it keeps them well-informed and able to help others make the right decision (and for me personally, it keeps me in-check). Sometimes we all need a reminder.
She didnt say what the video was about thats the kind of warning im on about, and this is a VEGETARIAN forum. Most people on here are vegetarian and odnt eat meat already so I dont see the point of putting a video like this on here, it should be put on a meat eating bit or something like that. Videos like this dont make me want to be a vegetarian at all, they make me want to shoot the people who are killing the animals this way but thats it.
yeah but wiggy, those things are tools if we choose to spread the message in an informative, non-insistant way. Lots of veg*ans like to inform questioning friends with these videos
so, the question could be "do they really work?" I'm not sure anyone should undertake anything as a negative (oh my god that's gross; we as a culture should not do this) but a positive (by ceasing to consume animals I will lessen demand by 80+ animals per year; vegetarianism aligns with my moral outlook and health needs) I read my first description of a slaughterhouse in 1995/96. I saw the first film later. I became veg in 1980, so how important is the gross out factor, really? to me, not. I do understand the value of video. "This is What Democracy Looks Like" was a great recharge when I grew tired of what appeared to be pointless stance against militarism and the erosion of civil rights in the US. Koons Garcia's "Future of Food" is a wake up call, as is "End of Suburbia." don't see them back to back, btw. Literate cultures go through waves where the power of spoken and graphically represented messages is strong because it hits a different part of the cortex in the brain (see Brave New World revisited, and the Alphabet and the Goddess for more on that). Likewise, literacy sweeps visual cultures with more impact. as for posting here, it IS "preaching to the choir" and probably of limited value. So, where should veggievangelists post them?
