    True... sad...

But at least they have fun, it's better than living in total paranoia.

To me, asking vital questions doesn't equate to paranoia. Besides, paranoia is unfounded fear. You can't be paranoid if you actually have evidence to back up what you're saying. (No matter how crazy it sounds to the average person who has been listening to Tom Brokaw all their lives.) In my opinion, the people who are paranoid are the ones handing all their rights and civil liberties over so that the oh-so-loving government can protect them against the "evil terrorist boogeymen" who want to "chop their head off."

Moreso than in the past. But what difference does it make? Are you saying that because it's "not new," that makes it all right?

At the same time, people are now benefiting from the highest amount of personal rights in human history. People are always led by a government to achieve the government's selfish cause... look at every large political regime in world history... and the people are always told that it's for their own good. Yet with today's US two party system, there isn't much of a difference, is there? And if peopel were to actually stand up and overthrow the government, then they would give up all of the rights and comforts that that government worked to give them.

You see... even if everyone knows, is still changes nothing in this system.

We are given the illusion we have rights, but the truth is humanity has never been free. That's another topic, though.

I don't agree people have more rights today. Certain groups have been given more rights to give the illusion of people having rights, while at the same times other groups/people have had considerable rights taken away. But when you look at what's been going on lately, it should alarm anyone who is thinking. It should scare people when they have a president who says it's "his decision" on issues, regardless of what Congress or the American people want. It should scare people when they look at a bill such as the Military Commission Act, which makes "enemy combatants" out of American citizens who criticise the government.

Yet, most people aren't even aware of this because if they're not busy watching porn or Survivor reruns, they're more concerned about "gay rights" and stuff like that.

I agree with you, people should be aware of these obvious things...

Humanity has either never been free or always been free, depends on your definition of freedom.

All I know is that ethnic groups and sexes are treated equally now, people can apply for any job they want, and all the other things which I shouldn't list for they are obvious. Just think of how society has progressed socially in the last 100 years. True, this might not be my definition of "freedom", but it's the average Joe's definition... and that's all that counts.

Slavery is for the most part self-imposed. They do it for a dream that will probably never be realized. You can rattle their bedpost but cannot wake them up if they are insistent on sleeping. Rattle too hard and they may kick you in the nuts.

well i think it would be poetic justice to see bush and rumsfield and cheney and rove and that bunch all extrodinarily rendered to face a war crimes tribunal and then sentenced to what they've put people who haven't been charged with anything through in places like gitmo.

but you know, no amount of any kind of vengence against anyone would make my life any better or happier. i'd like to see high level miscreats facing what they deserve, not because i'd get anything out of it, but people see people in high places getting away with crap like mass murder on the pretense of some sort of military opperations and think they can get away with whatever suffering and harm they feel like causing too, and thus the world we all have to live in becomes that much more of a brutal place. so i'm concerned about that.

but i'd much rather see all this vengence begets vengence begets vengence ad infinitum, for people to wake up and realize this kind of crap just isn't getting us anywhere any sane person would want to be.

i'm not saying i want to let anyone off the hook, but we really need to learn how it is that WE are creating a market for them and how to stop doing so. that's the only way this crap is ever going to completely stop. looking for the gratuitous momentary release of vengence just keeps perpetuating it.

so the whole idea of wanting to "kick" someone "in the nuts" is really idiotic and self defeating. or defeating of the kind of world we could all be living in and happier doing so anyway.

i know bush created this crap all by himself out of thin air, or his puppet masters did, but WE, the collective we, created the market for there to be a bush and his puppet masters in the first place. just blaming, even taking vengence, on them, isn't going to prevent its repitition in the future. only our own choices of priorities can or will, and not choices based on arbitrary assumptions either, but upon real, objective knowledge of how things actualy work, do that.

That is just sloppy Rubin, if everyone "knows" that "comfort" leads to obesity, laziness, stupidity, and an overall downfall of everything that civilization has strived to achieve, then were we to overthrow the government, many will die in the process, and you can only hope that people who knew all along what was on the horizon will be left to clean up the mess. Trust me, it's all or nothing man, either a ton of us die in order to save humanity, or we all die.

I agree.... but people are happy and comfortable within their obesity, laziness, and stupidity. That is the problem. I'm not saying that we shouldn't act, I'm saying that we won't act.
