Hi all, I've just been on my first (of possibly many) barefoot strolls. With it being my first time barefooting in public, I didn't want to aim too high - a simple walk around the block was enough for me - but what a walk!

    It was amazing!

Until you take your shoes off, you have no idea of just how many different wonderful textures there are under your feet (well, I guess you guys do, but I sure didn't, not until now).

I didn't think it, but each pavement stone is slightly different, some smooth - some rough, but everyone different, and you can feel the differences, and it felt great.

I was glad that I only went on a short walk though, towards the end of it my feet were starting to hurt a tiny bit. But it was my first time, so I can be forgiven that. I just need more practice to toughen my feet up.

Mind you, it was only a tiny but of pain, and I'm sure that if I had stopped for a minute to rest them a bit, then carried on, I would have been able to extend my walk, but seeing as I was eager to get back indoors before anyone saw me, I stuck to my original plan.

Anyway, I enjoyed it very much, and plan to do it again, hopefully with my friend Caroline occasionally too, around my neighbour hood, around her neighbourhood, down the local woods and all over the place. I can't wait.

So a big yay for me :D

PS, I doubt that this is of very much interest to you, but if you click on the link below you'll be able to see the route I took.

    http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=547804&Y=176233&A=Y&Z=1

The arrow is pointing directly at my house, from there I turned left (so I was facing west) and walked to the corner of Winchester Road before turned into it. I then walked north up Winchester Road to Normanhurst Avenue, threw a right, strolled down to the corner of Alexander Road, then used to to get back to my house. I think in total the walk probably took around 5 minutes (although I can't be sure as I was not timing it).

Next time I think I'll probably take it a bit easier and extend my route (How about down Holmesdale, along Gipsy, down and around Barrington, and then back down Brampton into Holmesdale? I know it's not all that much adventurous, but it is further, and will take me along a major road.

Anyway, I'll worry about that when I do it (maybe tomorrow) until then I'm off to do some reading.

I've just got back from my second barefoot neighbourhood walk. This time I had more confidence, so I took a longer route, walked at a slower pace, and spent far more time out (around 20 minutes this time, OK I know it's lame, but you got to give me a chance :)).

As before, the ground felt wonderful between my bare soles. I even stood still for a minute or two at one point, I could almost feel the energy flowing between the ground and my feet.

I deliberately walked though any puddles that I saw so that I would leave some watery footprints.. I don't know if anyone will see them before they dry, but I hope that someone does.

As before, I didn't have any direct encounters with anyone else. Three cars drove past, and I saw a couple of foxes (one of which scared the shit out of me as it started yapping all of a sudden from behind a bush).

I did however see someone in the distance, I can't tell if it was a guy or a girl (although if it was a girl, she was a bulky build). It looked very much like this person was barefooted also. If any further proof was needed, it looked like this person was holding a pair of shoes in their right hand. But. It was dark, and this person was in the distance, I could have been seeing what I wanted to see.

Anyway, as soon as I got in I took some photos of my feet, which if you're interested I'll put up tomorrow :)

    Any more 'first timers' here?

    Hi Dan,
Glad you have found the joys of barefooting, there nothing like it.

I'm the same as you, i'm shy going barefoot and only do it of a night. I think it would help if you found someone to go barefoot with but as yet i haven't been able to find anyone in my part of london.

Anyway hope you carry on, and maybe one day will run into each other you never know.

    Keep em Bare

    Barefoot Andy

I'm sorry to disapoint you (not that any of you really care :p) but I won't be doing a walk tonight. I'm already ready for bed, and kinda don't see the point (i.e. I've done as much as I can around my neighbourhood... I need to go further afield, such as local woodland, etc.).
