Hi folks; My 8year old daughter had her ears pierced just before xmas. Both became imbedded & we got them out & she has some different earrings too that were given to her. The left ear embedded in the back, it has one of those plascit backs but we got that out & put ona metal with the scrolls & that seemed to keep tht from happening. Whe cleans her ears morning & night for what that's worth. Tonight after her shower I asked her why she wasn't drying her hair & she told me that she was afraid she was going to hurt her ear. When I finally got her to let me look I found a bump that looks kind of like it's a pimple. I have read about keloids but this is whiteish & the ones I have read about or seen pictures of are purple. Could it be as simple as a pimple?
Its probably infected.. Sometimes it takes a while for piercings to heal so you have to clean it constantly with an antibacterial soap and bactine and peroxide, that kinda stuff and wear sterling silver. If she's already doing that then maybe she is allergic to silver and needs to wear gold. Make sure the metal isn't some cheap metal though.
Soak the bump in some warm water mixed with sea salt, (not regular table salt.) When the water cools down, the salt looses its abilty to help the piercing heal so best to keep the water warm. In order to get rid of the pain, it is important to keep the piercing clean.
Did you get them done at a Claire's type shop, or by a real piercer? Put some surgical steel or titanium captive hoops in. Helped my shit out a bunch.
its almost definitly not infected! do sea salt soaks, make sure she has good jewellery in there and apply tea tree oil every day (you might need to dilute it and only use it if it isnt raw and painful). if they were pierced with a gun (please dont do this!!) it could be an excess of scar tissue or something like that. wear implant grade surgical steel. dont use any chemicals on it! peroxide kills cells, good ones too. the best soap to use is a nautral, mild, hypoalergenic one. find a reputable professional piercer in your area and ask them about the bump. i have had bumps on some of my piercing but tea tree oil always cleared them up. ive never had them on my ears though, and ive done all sorts of crap to my ears. i suspect its scar tissue.
i suppose youre probably right. if it hurts, i wouldnt put tea tree on it. it depends on the bump. the ones i get sometimes are like abcesses and only happen after the piercing is about halfway to being healed.
When i got both my ears pierced. 3 weeks later my right ear had a HUGE bump inside the skin. It was very sick to touch even though it was covered... Well i took out that piercing put some rubbing alchole on my ear and let it seal up. Got it re pierced later. ^^
I've got a bump on one of my earlobes because of an allergy to nickel that i didn't quite know about till it was too late. Basically i had an allergic reaction and it healed, but left scar tissue in a little lump. It's completely benign, and i could have my ear redone by my dermatologist if i wanted. is it right under the hole? can she get an earring in? I could suggest if it isn't sore/pussing or anything like that, keep an earring in. It could just be scar tissue from a gun-done piercing and it would be a good idea to keep a hypo-allergenic earring in the hole so that it doesn't close (gold, silver, stainless steel all work, but make sure it isn't nickel, its actually a really common allergy) Hope her ear gets better peace
oh, dont take the piercing out. if it is actually infected, the infection could get trapped inside since the hole will heal from the outside in.
I got both my ears pierced just standard lobe piercings, for whatever reason my one ear got extraordinarily infected. My ears are slightly gauged, so all I did was take the earring out soak it in rubbing alcohol, dip a q tip in some alcohol and put it through the hole, healed up no problem in 3 days my ears have been fine ever since.
Also what works really well to keep clean. Get a glass put some HOT water in it. Add a teaspoon of salt. Not a whole lot. Then have the person dip his/her ear in it. Having the piercing get soaked helps so much. I hold my ear in the water for about 2 mins then switch. Do this a few times twice a day. It helps alot from stoping an infection if you think one is coming on.
is it healed? i got the top of my ear (cartilidge) pierced about 15 years ago, and as it healed, it formed a bump in the back that it still there. at first it hurt, but i kept it cleaned, and as it healed, it just became skin. it's regular skin colored, too. at some point my mom made me go to a dermatologist, who said that it was just scar tissue, and it formed because of the way the skin healed. he said he could get it off, but if he left it, it would be harmless, so i left it cuz it's behind my ear and you cant see it. so it's still there and i have a stainless steel ring in there. i actually forgot about it till i saw this post, as i never change my earrings. if it heals, and is just a bump, i'd say ignore it, as long as there's no infection, etc. maybe check with a dr. to make sure it's the same as what i have. good luck. peace.
Is that not a bit too late after15 year. Don't worry. When we first joined HF and started sorting through the threads, most of us forgot to look at the dateline.
