i just started at this continuation school in my town, and if you guys havent tried it its fucking great. we dont start until 9am and we get out at 2. all our classes are 45 minutes long. we have an open campus, and they let you smoke. theres no homework, and the classes are super small, only about 200 students in the whole school. everyones really laid back and friendly and everyone smokes weed. so if youre fucking up in regular school, there are alternatives.

I go to an alternative school in WA that is pretty much the same thing except we don't get out until 3:30. A bunch of potheads, no homework. Plus if you want to take classes at other schools for stuff in damn near any career you want, the people at the school will help figure all that shit out. They really don't give a fuck if you come to class stoned so long as you can still do the tiny amount of classwork (Mostly writing down the answers they tell you) It is pretty laid back but amazingly enough I actually learn shit there! (Maybe ganja IS good for learning :))

i'm going to be moving up north to idaho most likely within the next 3 months. And i'm going to be going to an alternative school there. So your saying they'll let you smoke cigarettes during break in stuff even if your not 18. What about pot, hahaha. Well i look forward to that, at this one theres only like 100 kids in the whole school, so it should be great.

7-2? wtf?? i repeat WHAT THE FUCK??? fuck im happy not to live over there. i wake up at 7 at the very earliest and dont usually get out of bed till 730-8

if i had the power id even move our school hours back, to like 10-4 (schools over here are 8-9 till 3-3:30)
i stay up at night largely caus its night, and so if school ended later, i wouldnt be staying up later by an hour. i think it would fix lots of problmes for everyone.

Fuckin A! about time we had more alternative schools and stopped trying to mold everyone into the same shape with the same set of norms and values.

I went to an alternative high school about 10yrs ago and it was the best school I ever attended. I was accepted there and didn't feel the pressure that I felt in a traditional high school. And at that time I had never even tried drugs so that wasn't why I fit in.

I stayed in the same classroom all day w/ the same kids and teachers, we still had to do school work but the teachers were much more involved and caring than other teachers I had in the past. I won't send my kids to a conventional school if I don't have to, I'll be homeschooling my 5yr old this year.

Good luck to you I hope everything works out for the best .

well, I've been to "alternative" schools my whole life... meaning I've never had to wear a uniform, never had a threat of detention and I've only ever called my teachers by their first names. While the three schools I attended were all vastly different, they had this in common. Here are a few more things about each school:

Village School - preschool to year 7, 45 kids when I attended, 100+ now
    http://www.villageschool.vic.edu.au
I loved Primary School. Set out in the bush, we had so much space to play in. We built cubbies and had the best hide-and-seek games. No concrete in the whole school. Village is a "farm" school. We had all kinds of animals, and even raised a cow, a goat and chickens in our classroom. I still to this day tell my parents "the best thing you ever did for me was send me to Village School". Large, open classrooms. Mixed age classes. We worked from workbooks (as opposed to one set of sums for everyone in the class) so there was really no way to compare yourself with other people because everyone was doing different work at different levels. We painted the school buildings ourselves, inside and out. We had about 40 kids in our classroom but that was for 2 teachers, and three year levels.

Croydon Community School- yrs 7-12, approx 90 students
    http://www.croydoncs.vic.edu.au
A state-funded "alternative" public school. Usual day consisted of about 2 hours of "general studies" (combined maths & english class) in the morning, with all other classes optional throughout the day. Anything we wanted to learn, we could. We had classes on leadlighting, gardening, meditation, paper making and roller skating to name a few. We had whole-school meetings every monday morning. All school "rules" are made by the students and teachers, democratically. Every person's vote is equal. When I was there the students voted to be allowed to smoke (cigarettes) and so a series of 'laws' were made up, with penalties for breaking them. To this day those laws are still in place. U were allowed to smoke in a certain area at certain times of day. At those times the teachers would avoid the "smoking area".
*** It is totally against the law to do this and whenever the school was inspected no-one would smoke. BUT, the rest of the time the laws were in place and were respected by students and teachers alike*** And for the record, we had a lower percentage of teenage smokers than most private schools!!!!!!! I've heard a lot of criticism about this school- but I found that they truly respected us (the students) and our ability to make our own choices. Mixed age classes. Class sizes anything from 5-30 students, depending on the subject

Melbourne Rudolf Steiner School- all year levels, approx 1000 students
    http://www.mrss.com.au
Kids from other schools used to call us "steineroids" in the bus *grin* but we knew they were just jealous. However, even we found the school's "steinerisms" pretty weird. For starters none of the buildings have any 90 degree angles. Not even the tables were oblong. The classrooms were made of mudbrick and each one was a different colour. We grew our own organic veggies from scratch, and then cooked them into canteen food. No junk food or fizzy drinks were allowed *sigh*, but the food did taste really good, and it was cheap. We used to sing every morning and before the start of just about every lesson, probably between 5-10 songs a day. We had all our Biology classes outside. no homework whatsoever until year 10. No "front" of the classroom, as most of the rooms are round. Lessons on quite a diverse range of subjects including Latin and Eurythmy. Average class size under 20.
